    Ya gotta look closer! under the top receive section, it says '100 kHz TVG amp' and the bottom it


    says '500 kHz TVG amp'


    Also, by 'dynamic' Sture means dynamic range (I believe) which is the ratio of your largest


    acceptable signal to your smallest. Because close objects will return a loud ping that will be orders


    of magnitude larger than the return from a distant object, you need a wide dynamic range.


    So to put it simply, high bandwidth = more details, high dynamic range = longer sonar range.

    use a dual gate mosfet with a ramp (2 knee) to


    give a tgc (time gain control) to linearize the


    return signal---little gain after "bang" with gain


    increase after n time--this is how the problem is


    resolved in medical ultrasond imaging equipment..


    also any phd's out there---phased array---with


    ducers timing correct--the effect is to cause


    a focus field of view at a specific distance from


    the array.again from the medical....

    TVG ramp

    Rick,


    Thanks for your input, I was able to fine a variable gain amp from Analog Devices (thanks to Carl)(AD605). It’s a single supply which is what I need, it will fit right in-between the pre amp and 200khz filter, but I don’t know the best way to ramp the gain up. A simple R/C? Should it be more linear? Any help would be appreciated. Electronics is not my best, but with a little nudge in the right direction I’ll hack my way through.
