  • Special chip

I am looking for a chip that will give me the value of the highest signal amplitude during a preset time period.

In other words, if I measure during a time perion, of say 5 mS, I want to see what the highest amplitude of a signal was. (4 or 8 bit digital output preferred)

Does anyone know about such a chip ?

    Regards

    Re: Special chip

    Hello!

A Peak detector circuit is what you need. A good souce for several operational amplifier circuits is the application note 31 from National Semiconductors. URL is: www.national.com/an/AN/AN-31.pdf

On page 12 there is one example. Capacitor C12 is charged to the input's peak voltage. In the beginning of every period you must "reset" the circuit by discharging the capacitor (use fet to short-circuit the capacitor momentarily).
