  • Need Piezo Help

    I'm trying to put together a 200 kHz array, rather than learn by my mistakes $$$, I was hoping to learn what will work, and who to get it from cheaper. I been following your message board for a few months now, and you guys are light years ahead of me but I'm learning. If anyone has had any success building an array I could sure use some help.

            Thanks for the offer, but I live in the Netherlands.


            It might be a bit expensive to send it over.


            As I understood, the elements are not that expensive.

              Project going on well.


              I first made basic drawing of sidescan electronics.


              Just what I wanted and thought it needed.


              These drawings are basic flowcharts.


              Then I started to put more and more detail in the drawings.


              During this time I changed and tuned the design.


              Even found some basic design errors..


              Now the flowcharts are so detailed that 99% of the chips used are connected to each other (Functional connections.)


              Yesterday I made a last large change in the design.


              Feel that the way I have it now should work OK.


              I will go over the design another few times to make sure that there are no errors.


              When I am satified I will start the electronic design.


              This should take only a few days as the flowcharts are so detailed that the electronic design is just a copy with slightly more details (like pullup resistors etc)


              I have used 8x PIC processors for the whole design.


              Becasue of that I have relative few other components wich makes building it easier.


              As I believe in modules and not in 1 large board I have the design in 6 modules.


              1) Control Register module


              This module does all inter module communication.


              2) Transmit/receive Module


              This module does all data transfer from and to boat. (Laptop computer)


              3) Power Control Module.


              Voltage control, battery charger, Depth sensing and water detector(Flooding)


              4) Transducer Ping/Echo Control Module.


              Switches Transducers On/off and supervises next 2 modules


              5) Gain Ramp Module


              Generates a gain sawtooth signal depending on various settings.


              6) Peak calculate module


              This module calculates the maximum occured echo strength in 1/500 of the total Ping time. (3 PIC processors running at 20 MHz ...)


              The settings I can change from laptop are


              1)Range (100 or 200 m)


              2)Gain Start to Stop Ratio


              E.g Start with 2.5dB and work up to 30dB


              3)Color adjustment


              Shift distance between minimal echo strength and max echo strength.


              If I get only weak echos that I can set the color so that the color red (strong echo) is still used.


              Some basic fish data is also monitored and shown on laptop.


              Status of all modules, Battery condition and Flood warning.


              Next week I will go over the design again and again to make sure that I do not have any timing errors.


              (Like clamping the input amplifier after I fired the ping...)


              As you see, I am enjoying myself here...

                Tod,


                Short term I plan on using an old Si-Tex Chart recorder, longer term I'm interested in designing a computer based system similar to the work you guys have been doing.


                Can anyone suggest any reference material on how to actually put the ducer together? I've got some ideas from reading the many posts here, but I'm looking for some construction guidance so I don't wind up with a big expensive pile of ceramics, wire, and goop.


                Any and all advice would be welcomed! If you don't want to bore the rest of the forum members you can email me directly if you wish. Like I said before you guys are light years ahead of me and I need all the help I can find.

                  I am trying to do the same with two echosounders one using paper and the other a collor CRT, on 200 KHz.


                  Can you provide me the reference of the 12 transducer-ellement trade house and cost. I should like to assemble an transducer like your on the foto.
