    It may not be the most glamorous part of the project, but do people think we need and/or can make a deck winch for reeling the towcable?


    I imagine that buying one off the shelf will be big bucks, but maybe someone can design one that is easily built.


    Also, those with your prototype experience can tell us if they are needed in the first place.

    I was just thinking of a normal cable drum, like one uses for heavy duty extention cord.


    The cable I am going to use is just a twin 2.2mm fiber optic and a 3mm stainless steel wire with a length of 75-100 meter.


    I use the steel wire as towing wire because it does not stretch as much as a rope.


    To get the cable onboard again I will have the boat following the wire back to the fish, so no great force is needed to reel the cable in.


    At the moment I do not think we will need a heavy duty winch.
