        3D & ???

Klaud, I was the one who posted the Links to the FREE Software a couple of threads down. I'm not sure what you are trying to say about using the 3D software. If you have downloaded the File on the Geotomo site titled "Coursenotes.pdf" and read it you will see that the 3D resistivity layout requires Hundreds of DATA Points and is Very Labor intensive not to mention requireing a Restivity Meter and DataLogger of some type.

What my intention was by posting the 3 Pictures was to Stir Up some interest and Possibly get some questions and or responses from others who had tried this software with whatever Meters and or Loggers they have used.

Also, what types of Grid/Electrode patterns they have or are using, ie. Werner, Dipole Dipole, Schulemberger, or ??? and what their findings were. Did you dig the target after identifying it by which ever survey method or ???.

What types of Equiptment was used for the survey?

What I used to aquire the Data for the Pictures was an OLD Keithley VOM meter that had .0000 resolution on the 20m ohm DC amps and the same resolution on VDC.
After the 2nd time doing the survey on the same 20yd line, First with Dry ground and Second with apx. 1 qt. of water poured around each data point I compared the results. What I found was that Three or four data points showed the lower resistivity WET Halo Decreasing with Depth. Or in other words It appeared as an elongated JUG down. This is what I had expected to see and it showed me that the data aquisition method and the software were producing PREDICTABLE Results.

After I had compleated the 3rd Survey over the same Line I discovered that I had been moving the Probes in an Incorrect Sequence, and so on compleation of the correct Sequence I ran the new data with Sequencial Numbers in the Data File and GOT an 81 M long printout that said that I had entered 80 Plus Electrode Points. Well I KNEW that I had only Driven 20 Stakes 1M a part and that running the correct sequence of electrode positions gave me 65 DATA Points. I found when I changed the Sequencial Numbering of the data points to numbering the data points sequencialy for each different a=1, a=2, ... the printout SHRANK Back to 21M and the Measured, Calculated, and Processed data picture LOOKED more Like the ones in Dr. Loke's Manuels.
This let me know that I was BEGINNING to Catch on to the Concepts and Methods being explained in the Texts and the Help files.

I Hope to hear from some of you who have experience with this Method of Imiaging. I can't wait to be able to get the EPE DATA Logger built this winter along with Carl's FluxGate Mag. I hope to Experiment with the FluxGate Mag and try entering the Data into the 2D and 3D software to see what comes up. and maybe doing a 2D or 3D ER survery and comparing the results with some Known Target such as a Burried 5gal, or 20gal quarter Drum, just to see if the patterns have any corrolation. Don't Know Till I try it or someone else does and reports their findings here.

        Hope this stimulates some Discussion!
        Sincerely
        Bill Adams

          Surfer

Surfer 8 cannot be used for geotomography.
The pictures were probably taken with a Sting or Syscal and displayed with RES2DINV program.
Surfer 8 is to be used with RM15 or TR/CIA or magnetometer
A nice and free program is X2IPI for geotomographies

Klaud, do you have a link to the above FREE software?
And what is/are the Sting or Syscal??? I am Asumming that these are some type of Meters and/or Dataloggers.

Where are the companys that make them???

You Seem to Know a lot about this type of equiptment and techneique of doing Geotomographies, would you Please tell us more of your Educational and Work related experience and background. I only ask this because I'm not interested in People who are Selling a Product or Promoting some other agenda. I would be interested in knowing if you have used these different types of Insterments and software and what your Personal Results were. How does each different make of insterment work in the Field and what are their Strong Points and Weak Points.
What types of Free/Demo Software have you tried out and what your opinion of each to the other and compared to the Proffessional Grades.

              Later ...

I will answer later as there are too many questions. I need to compile the information.
I am French and retired in Greece. My previous job was computer Engineer specialy on huge databases.
I am not selling or promoting any device.
I used some good instruments and I will post a list of them and the software required.
              Regards,

Klaud, I anxiouslly await your reply. I haven't done ER surveys before, but I have Studied Mining Engineering, Geology, Gold Mining, Ore Milling Methods, and various GeoChemical/GeoPhysical methods. When I tried to use the CHx Dithiozone Geochemical method I was unable to See the Colors that were discribed in the text and verbal communications that showed the different metals, because I'm Color Blind Which makes it the SUPREME PITS when trying to see the colors on resisters and caps and other similar COLOR CODED things. But I make up for that by being tenasious and determened and creative.

I tried to get my Software Enginering Degree in the Late 80's but didn't follow up because of finantial problems.
I used to have mining claims that needed some type of GeoPhysical survey to PROVE or DISPROVE my theroys on the potentiol for paying ore at depth. I hope to be able to use my newly learned and learning skills to go back and prove to myself that my theroys were either correct or not. I DO NOT have any plans to persue the development of these properties even IF they prove out my ideas of what I thought was there. For those who are curious as to why I won't be persuing development of these, it's because of the ECOLOGY problems surrounding such a venture on my VERY Fixed Limited Income. And I'm just tired of Fighting "BIG WhatEver". I just want to PLAY in my retirement and have FUN hunting Clandestinely for Treasures.

                    Yes I used these instruments.

TR/CIA Resistivity meter is good and give nice results.
                    I used 0.5 meter steps.
Good pictures but not easy to know the depth
Very slow and need two more operators.

                    Gradiometer GRAD601-1
Very fast . Good results to be compare with other results as TR/CIA
Need two more operators and be careful with metalic fences !
Not easy to know the depth

                    Syscal KID SW24
Collecting data for one line can take from 45 mn to 120 mn depending of the number of stakes , method array and quality required.
Very good for depth but usualy optimist !
3D can be done with two or three lines.
take care of phantom items ... could be avoid by a line at 90° passing over.

                    Deeper8
Very strong signal on deep items.
No discrimination even si constructor say "Reject" available.
1 meter X 1 meter coil need to be put on sliding frame to have good results.

                      WOW!!!
Thanks Klaud! and now I have to recover from all that information just like you did with all MY questions??? I will be downloading and comparing all the software you have so Graciouslly posted. This is the type of discussion that we need on this Forum. People who have Field Experience and are willing to Share their knowledge with other folks.
                      Again Thanks Klaud!
and this may take some time to digest.

Giant Links Page to Archeology Sites Worldwide.

Klaud, I had a page or so of text wrote and went to get this link and lost all the text I had written. If you want to corrospond by EMail my addr. is
wvadamsATtheofficenet.com just remove AT and replace with @.
                          http://www.cast.uark.edu/nadag/Other...otherLinks.htm

I will hopefully have my FluxGateMag, EPE restivity meter and DataLogger assembled and ready for this Spring. I have some sites I want to run to see what shows up. One in Particular is in Central Oregon and was an Old Mining Town with 20 - 30 Dwellings, PostOffice, Salloon, and Stage Station in 1863. By 1869-72 the Town had Moved 5mi to the West and Abandoned Its Original Site. I got the Preliminary Info on this one while Researching Placer Gold Mining in the Area and reading a 1950's Unpublished Masters Thesis on Geology of the area. The site has Been Protected by being on Private Property since the Late 1800's till Present. I hope to be able to gain Permission from the landowners to run ER, FXGMag, & VLF MD surveys on this site.
I have another Very Ambitious Project I hope to get in the Future but I will only tell you by Private EMail as I don't want somebody else to Beat me to It first, TOO many People on this Site that you don't know so if your interested maybe we could talk privately wvadamsATtheofficenet.com.
                          Sincerely

Here is a good 3d program. You can load-up most any kind of data into it and view/export to many formats.
