It works but I don't know how to really set this thing up.

......Thought you guys might want some info.......This is probably Garrett's 1st discriminator(?).......Made from 1974 to around 1977 or so.....Now this is all based on my 40 years of detector bliss........LOL......Joe

It was my first real metal detector. The 5" coil made quite a difference on coins. You basically set one control to get the putt-putt and an increase in sound over metal, then used the other control to set the meter at halfway. Then, all iron and foil would cause the meter to deflect down to reject and other metals would cause the meter to deflect to good.
