I have been using a 6 horse power shop vacuum, nothing elaborate.

I like the simplicity of the design Don. A lot neater than the box I have my table built on.

I also use a Shop Vac which is more than enough. I built the original box with two ports so I could connect two vac's but found that only one was needed.

Hi, all new to me this..

Does the wood frame and bulldog clips go in the oven too?

How far is the vac table to the oven - do you get a couple of seconds?

Do you not require heat gun?

If the sheet sits on the shell template - there is no vacuum?

Pls do a vid of one being done !

                    Hi Steve,

Don covered this in the Complete Details 101 part 2 that is found here: http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showt...mplete-Details

I have built up a vacuum table along those lines and have made several 8 inch DD shells.
My finished product does not look at good as Don's but it get the job done.

                    Jerry

Yes.. Frame and clips all go into the oven.

How far is the vac table to the oven - do you get a couple of seconds?
Very close.. and very little time to get the frame from the oven to the vacuum table.. 5 to 10 seconds at the most. That is why guides are important to get everything aligned quickly.

Do you not require heat gun?
A heat gun can somtimes be used to fix minor imperfections but most of the time it makes things worse.. so I would suggest not using one at all.

If the sheet sits on the shell template - there is no vacuum?
When the sheet is positioned on the template, there is not vacuum. You must press the frame down onto the table to make a seal. Only then is the sheet drawn tight around the template.

No problem! I will do a video so you can get an idea of just how it is done.

Thanks.. As you may have noticed, unless you get the plastic REALLY hot or spend $$$$$ to get an elaborate vacuum system, to get a complete form in tight spots, you need to manually stretch the plastic a little, but it still forms out completely with the aid of a shopvac.

I have less failures of I error on the side of colder plastic. Hotter sheets will form out by themselves but I somtimes end up with folds that I don't want, develop holes or get a glazed look to the finished product.
