I have The Art of Electronics 2nd edition by Horowitz & Winfield Hill also ITMD3. If you are looking for an introduction to electronics related to the wizardry that goes on inside those little boxes, then for most people that have a hazy understanding of electricity, neither of these two books are likely to help. The Art of Electronics is a highly recommended book but chapter 1 is a grave yard. The missing book in metal detecting should look at the rewriting of that whole chapter, because if the foundations are not there then you will be struggling later on.
In the past 25 years many good detectors have been built and if serviced can be used for up to 50 years, I know this because I rebuild hifi equipment from the 1970s/80s. I can do this because the literature on the equipment is free access, sadly metal detecting is very different. Therefore the missing book should cover servicing a detector in detail, recycling is very popular.
Its obvious that there is a missing book, it just needs to be written.
