Got to thinking Visited a wire guage calculator.
Yea right good one you need 350 strands 42 awg wire to be 16 guage

DIY Mad Litz Wire for ULTRA FAST PI Coils

Im wondering if since litze wire allready comes with a twist to it if you can just take two strands and wrap them in the oposite dierstion and get the same results.
The Litz I have has 6 bundles inside double cloth insulation all wraped clockwise .
So if we wraped two or even three to four strands counterclockwise would this be the same relationship as making your own twists?
Also would there be a benefit in wraping a coil in the manner in the image below. Would the oposing polarities help capacitance or possibly couple the strands better?
Thanks for any advice in advance Im trying to put a sub 5 us coil together.

Hi Elliot,
I paint either the housing or the outside of the foam with Commercial graphite shielding paint and I will take a picture of the finished coil with hand fabricated housing.

Now I get it! What do you shield with over the XPS - spray-on or copper foil? I look forward to seeing the progress.Originally posted by IBGold View PostHi Elliot,
The former is made from two layers of 5 mm XPS foam bonded together the cutouts where the wires cross sides id 5 mm wide the groves that are routed out to take the wires are 2 mm deep and 1.6 mm wide with a 1.6 mm router bit I then put two layers of XPS over each side as shield spacer I have not got a picture of that coil finished ready to shield but finished flat wound coil ready to shield as attached should give you the idea.

Hi Ian. Just to clarify, the former was 5mm thick (not sure what material it was made from), the wire crossover junction was a 10mm wide, 2mm deep notch. What was the 1.6mm wide dimension for? Nice work and great measurements!Originally posted by IBGold View PostHi all I am back starting to be able to use the arm again and have now finished this coil final details are.

I built my speaker wires using this method, and then wove them into a square cross section. It is absolutely a two person job! You end up using about 50% more length of cable though.

Yes i agree it is a piece of art. But before i try building it myself i never realize how much work and patience it requires. My end result was something much uglyer but it works prity well with my surf. So far the best coil from all the types i try. Respect for your hard work and expecting to hear about the end results(my one will be posted later as the cable i have was shorter and i achieve only 140uH on 0.5Ohm).

Lead is much like gold as far as the detector is concerned. The bead does mask the lead signal but introduces its own see the 2nd pix. The best way is to spot weld the wires together or use a Cu ferrule and crimp the joint
