Any ideas on how to wind this PI coil ?

    this thread is only about the mechanics of winding this coil design, not about fast coils.
    Built it, tested it, works fine.

    Well, the coil is just one component of the detector - what good is a fast coil if the circuit is bad ....
    Anyone who thinks independently will do their own experiments and draw conclusions, there is no godparent recipe.
    Re-building without knowledge, that is a bad solution ....

    no sense to discuss if coil is not fast. i reminder to people a time when they loudly laughed on me if i told about litz in coil.
    now they do coils with litz and no laugh.

    KT is right, this sequence of windings is nonsense. If you want to make flat spiral coil with two layers, just wind the bottom layer first in sequence then make a pass back with the top layer. Then all turns will be consecutive and easy to wind. The concentration of magnetic lines of flux will be the same.

    Hi , yes the circular U channel idea is similar to my idea of the flat plates and spacer, might try the bevelled edge spacer plate, but not sure if it will make the offset pattern as it winds,
    the offset should make a narrower coil.

    Thanks kt315 and tibuck love the banter and yes some of us have only been making coils for a couple of years and only wish to see how the masters do it!

    i say again - your mistake filling the coil by epoxy.
    look on table at right https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relative_permittivity
    you never get fast coil with epoxy.
    your physics school level is very poor. thats big trouble.

    IC I didn't think with bigger gauge wire it would be effected that much by salt water. In that case if I was to make it , I would probably be using my 3dprinter, I would make a coil wrap and make the coil housing in two half's leaving a 0.4 mm wall ,5 to 10 mm over hang on beyond one of the two half, I would spray the graphic in to both, then insert the coil, and acetone both half's together and pour the Epoxy resin throw the a fill hole.
