Yes, I use this for to recovery components from many but many PCBs (in boxes) of equipment I have. This extracted components is for projects. This tool is for components difficult to extract. Don't used for recovery caps, resistors, diodes, etc. Just for many pins components.
When I recover of my interest, the PCB and not useful materials (for me) go to the garbage. Yesterday, with this tool extract a MC1403U, volt reference for 2.5 V. After extracting, I connect to 9 V battery and... voila! output obtained is exactly 2.5 V, so the component don't suffer damage.

When you can't obtain a special device for to desolder components solder on both side, you can use hipodermic needle for horses
# 12-20 or 15-20. Here attached to metalic cilinder. You hot the solder with the iron ant at same time make circular movement
into pin of device and PCB.
