Today, I first tested isopropyl alcohol (isopropylene) in the proton magnetometer PPMA-3. Large improvements in the device compared to kerosene had not noticed. The device works fine when the polarization of 600 ms. Boundary of stable operation - 400 ms

has anyone used paraffin (wax) as a working fluid? If not,
why? It seems that because it is "solid" at room temps
it would be quite easy to work with.

the fluids work better. One idea is to use distilled water and add an 'ion' additive.
This I surmise helps couple the first RF pulse to the fluid which can then couple this energy to the magnetic domain for subsequent steps. I think this might be an
acid of some kind.

We are using isopropyl alcohol (isopropylene). This is the alcohol used to clean the white boards and the TV and PC Screens. It is widely available and cheap. We get very good signals from a polarization duration as small as 600msec which gives us a practical reading rate of one per second.
I have also used the type of alcohol used to light the BBQ,thaty works almost as well. The problem with kerosene is that it is a mixture of undefined percentages of many simple components and that could give very different results from one sample to the other. It also smells very bad!!!

Not a problem-liquid paraffin is also known as Mineral Oil.
From Wikipedia:

Liquid paraffin, or mineral oil, is a mixture of heavier alkanes, and has a number of names, including nujol, adepsine oil, alboline, glymol, medicinal paraffin, or saxol. It has a density of around 0.8 g/cm3.
