    So i got a board together, have to desolder a couple parts off the old board and had to use one of the old op amps while my new parts arrive in the mail.

    Switched the machine on, it seems to work when holding a large iron object very close to the coil.

    Spoke to someone at aquascan regarding fixing my original machine and what the diagnose procedure is.

    "What you have is a very early Aquapulse detector that would have been built almost 40 years ago; this preceded our taking over the manufacture of the later Aquapulse 1B systems, so we have not got any detailed information that we can pass on to you. Additionally there were a number of variants that we have seen that had different connectors to the versions that adopted the "Ikelite" type that is now manufactured by us as the "Aqualite"

    The problem could well be in the coil, cable or connector rather than the electronic module, the only simple way to check this is to substitute the coil and cable using the existing cleaned male connector and cleaning the mating socket. A temporary coil can be made by winding 27 turns of thin stranded wire onto a former approximately 8" (20cm) diameter and connecting via a 1.5 metre length of coax cable. To test: make sure the temporary coil is well away from any metal and turn the detector on and adjust the potentiometer to the threshold of detection, now check the range with a copper coin or suitable small metallic item.


    Note. The basic functionality of the control unit can be checked by temporarily connecting the Bonephone to the loop socket; this will give a loud buzzing sound if the detector is transmitting pulses.


    If none of the above are successful in determining the nature of the problem then the problem may be in the electronic circuit board that would be more difficult to rectify."

    "The total inductance is generally aimed to be about 300uH but does not have to be precise and changes as a the square of the number of turns, so based on the 27 turns suggested +/- one turn with give about a 7.5% change in the inductance."

    The trimmer top left is just to trim the offset of the 1st Op amp (pin6) to give a zero volts output (note, the circuit operates with a +ve voltage ground). The other trimmer is to set the audio generator to start oscillating when the final op amp output has been adjusted to zero volts with the main Audio Adjust control. I would be doubtful if the problem you have relates to the trimmer settings as these rarely give problems."

    I tried the coil , then checked the output on the 1st Op amp, i adjusted but i couldn't get it lower than 6 volts , will wait on the new parts then will try do some fault finding, i could very while have messed something up because i used the wrong IC a couple days back, dont know why i used it without double checking, may have been working really late.

    I have traced out part of the schematic, maybe I'll try to complete the whole thing. It would help if you could post a sketch of the wiring from the PCB to the front panel or maybe some photos.
    I did trace out the pcb based on what i have, when tracing out the board the program i used generated a very rough schematic which i will have to neaten up.

    No, that's not the schematic.

    I have a trace of the PCB based on photos of the original. I traced out about half the layout and posted it on forum. Some other member finished it and reposted the complete layout.
    There's no schematic but the circuit is nothing special and could be easily traced out.

    Stick the Minipulse in a watertight box and you'll have an Aquapulse.

    I missed the part where you had your pcb's made from a tracing of another pcb
    I dont know if this is the correct circuit or even close.
