I disagree with this! JackD. was my close friend, but we disagree on many points...
CZ5 is very good and very deep. Problem was with damn quartz, easy to brake...Few devices busted same way. Detector was punched on some rock or tree and only component was broken inside was...quartz..
Few of those ended at JD workshop.He tried somehow to replace that quartz without success....Thats why he ended with conclusion those are not sensitive. At the time we argued much about many things...Sort of ego war i suppose...!?
So few months before he died, we stopped talking....I am still sorry....
But facts are facts; CZ5 is one of the best detectors i ever saw in my life!
Especially when used with 8" spider coil - coin killer!

I already had that schematic....sloppy draw, few mistakes....not solving my TGS audio problem....
Still searching....

reading about that quartz... was it mounted vertically ?
I've seen many times quartz broke due to mechanical shocks, but most of the times is due to vertical position of it.
You know thin leads, glass supports, then the metal case inertia... also a small shock can break glass at leads.

I found that when the metal case is e.g. soldered to say a gnd plane the problem disappears, cause you fix the "huge" metal mass to the PCB and there is no inertia difference between quartz case and PCB. So no forces acting on leads that broke stuff around them.

Or the fail was due to internal damages ? (quartz supports)
Happened to me with larger ones (1MHZ and the like).

BTW, i just finished original coil for this Pulse IB .....As Sascho posted on schematic...i used those datas and coil is working great!
It took 23 windings for cancel coil, not 24..but i guess those are due differences in my hand made (sloppy)....
Works better than mentioned fisher coil...Coin at 27cm, cola can at 65cm...
Again, nice and interesting...yet simple!?

so my question about performance was not so odd ?
I think that TX section of Sasho's PulseIB gives a good boost.

Have you tested just in air or also on soil ?

hi Max. you extremally extract out very hard topic on a surface. we even do not remember that the sketch was written by hand of Great Man and Guru 'jackdetect'. and again... CZ-6. why??. errors are we try get a Top Line!

yes, you are right. Was an hard work of jackdetect, now I remember everything. Yes, great man. Unfortunately the circuit is so complex... he made some mistakes e.g. some values are missing, but considering the hard work I can only say thanks to him, RIP.
I'm interested in all original values for it. Tuning for me is just a second option, that I perform quite often... but CZ5 is kind of a myth ! Or not ?

Just curious of about if someone else... realized the detector and what real perfomances are with different coil.

You know, when I saw this stuff first time I jumped over the chair !

At the moment I'm fine with BandidoII and now GSabre, but thanks anyway.
Maybe in future, who knows ? I'll do it for real !

Hi Max . I tried to construct the CZ5 but when i looked in the schematic i saw that some elements have not value (near to U8 and U11 and maybe.....). So i stop the idea to construct it until find a better schematic ........... and i forgot it. It is a very good detector..... more sensitive than 1266.

from what I see from scematic it's a damn good detector.
I think that most of performance came from the famous coils it use, but circuit is really interesting and different from other simple detectors.

Ohhhhhhh Hard one that (CZ VCO). It sounds so cool.

Have you checked the CZ schematic posted somewhere on the forum a long time ago, can't find link? I will try.

BTW I HAVE a source of cheap Fisher heads, but not made by Fisher. Check out this Chinese manufacturer, they sell the heads for $25 and they work just great with this design!!

BC547 is NPN, BC557 is PNP...!? Of course!
Even arrowas are correct, only you cant see those clear, i had to rescale .bmp to .jpg and lower resolution to suit this forum demands and my dial-up limitations.
But hey, you dont need to look at arrows at all, i already noted BC547 and BC557....? Didnt i?
Schematic is accurate, no mistakes..Mod is working perfect.Pulse IB is worth of making, it is good,nice little design. I advice you to make it and see...

have 3 new 566 somewhere... from the 80's

At now 27cm stable in air with DD22 with 1eur coin. But maybe 566 could give it a boost ! Great stability.

Think I'll need an impedance adapter for TGS out... why don't a voltage follower ? Seems cool !

Maybe can use a spare TS27M2... to save current!
