    No Q markings or R markings or C markings on the circuit board , like Q1 or Q2 etc...etc.........Why would they want to make it easy for me to troubleshoot and fix my own machine , 20 years after the warranty is expired ??? I found some cold solder joints and re-did them all . Wrote down all the Transistor voltages , and found nothing wrong !! Except all the transistors are different substitutes than on the Schematic I have. So , original Search coil TX green/white wire is 6.2 ohms , and RX red/black wire is 31.9 ohms.

    Q6=mps6520-e-4.92-b-4.59-c-5.09 / Q5=MPS404a-e-4.97-b-4.24-c-4.92
    Q7=MPS6520-e-0.06-b-0.751-c-0.084 / Q4=TIP32-e-4.32-b-5.02-c-5.07
    Q3=PN2907-e-5.08-b-5.01-c-0.06 / Q2=MPS6520-e-5.03-b-0.009-c-0.06
    Q1=2n2222 labeled as something completely different e-0.0-b-1.239-c-0.07
    Q8=BUZ71-1-3.73-2-5.06-3-0.17

    The Excessive current drain must be after the control micro processor . I am almost positive it is a bad capacitor , common on metal detectors over 20 years old . This "Eagle" will become my Back-up machine now .

    When I finish my 20 Khz VLF Tesoro Lobo Project , The LOBO will be my main machine.....Deep on Coins and Gold with excellent Discrimination also a Low battery drain and a choice of different search coils to use . Out of all the machines tested , that do not have a micro-processor , I like the "original" vlf Lobo's field Tests , they are very impressive !! .......Regards...........Eugene52.

    Hello , I will send the files To Ivconic Today , I think I still have your e-mail address somewhere on my yahoo address book mess. Anyway , yesterday I was probing the voltages and all the stupid transistors I saw , they are marked with M.P.S's , not the "2n" series on the schematics !!!! . Also to power the machine "ON" a potential difference must be across the supply voltage input points . I could not hook a current meter across and start the Eagle . Probably a transistor switches on when 5.0 volts d.c. is applied ...... If the" i.t." total current is a maximum 100 or 150 at the most , it might be in spec. , but if it reads 300 or 400 m.a. it is not good. And also I did not see a fuse on the circuit board like the schematic shows . Another possibility is maybe Whites made a few hundred original Eagle versions and then they had problems , so maybe they corrected the bugs and posted a revised schematic . My Eagle maybe was never sent to the factory . If so then I may have the original "LEMON" .......You have to remember that my Eagle is Whites First Micro-processor metal Detector Ever , that I know of . Maybe the first in the World . At the time in 1987 Whites electronics were definitely ahead of Minelab and everyone , in Metal detector technology in the world .........Than-you everyone and I will send you the zip copy of the schematic .. asap............Regards.........Eugene52

    Hi Ivica.
    I think that Eygene has the schematic of the spectrum. As i saw at photo and my pcb they are 95% the same. They have the same parts at the same position except one small tr or reg (i did not looked at it). But for a general fault finding, i believe that it is OK.
    I have also one eagle Pro as Eygene but not in so good gondition, but it works perfect with Bluemax 950 coil

    Ok than; measure power drain. Connect amperemeter in serie with batteries and measure drain. Something draws to much power there...but what?
    Maybe some capacitor leakage...maybe something else..

    Hello Ivconic , My machine runs perfect for one hour . Then Becomes un-stable and I turn it off . So then I put another set of fully charged batteries and it will work perfect for one hour . If I plug it to the wall charger to a long extension cord outside , IT WORKS ALL DAY !!!!. It is a Beautifull Machine but it love's the "BATTERIES" !!.......... I think I have a Bad filter capacitor , Something is drawing three or four times the normal operating current . The rechargable Batteries should last 6 hours , at least !! How come White's did not use a 12 volt Battery instead of that stupid converter I.C. ??? Too much extra weight all day , what is the difference between 5 pounds or 10 pounds , No difference , I just want it to work all day !!!........I will post a little more later on . I need to get my printer working then , I will write down all the transistor and I.C voltages on the schematic and just post everything here later , and in a few days we will have this all done !! .....................Regards.........Eugene52

    Eugene, pay attention!
    What you have there is SPLENDID detector! Take care and dont broke it!
    I had IIc version and it was one of my favorite machines ever!

    I presume there is 78S40 in power supply, switching from 4.8V to at least 13V...further there must be kind of conversion down to 5V...
    So... you said "ocassional draws"..? What does this mean? Is it mean that device is working good most of the time and ocassionally draws a bit more current or does this mean that device is not working properly at all?
    If it is the first case than must be some "labile" component arround 78S40, look there. But if it is the second case...well...could be anything else.
    First measure voltages and than report here...

    The disassembly is easy ,only 4 screws I just need a strong light that does not cause a big glare . I have the "EAGLE I" schematic , sent from a "Great Geotech Member" like me........Sometime today during my very busy schedule , I will post total current draw in the idle mode and all metal and discrimination mode voltage reading's around the input section of battery supply voltage........I know I will fix it , but second opinions are welcome . Later I will send this old beast to Whites for the Big Software update and then I will try to find a cheap Blue max 950 search-coil ...........Take care all............Eugene52

    I will be posting here and on Thunting.com complete H.D. photos of my Eagle I , MPC , It seems to have an occassional high current draw , somewhere right after the battery contacts are soldered to the circuit board . I do not understand why Whites decided to design the stupid 4 "C" cells with this model , maybe to save space or cost ??? I liked the Whites 6000 series 2 that had the 12 volt supply . Plenty of power and no voltage conversion problems . Reminds me a tiny bit of the stupid ICL7660 IC chip I do not like . These are just my personal preferences and not meant to get anyone upset but me................Photos and voltage reading's tommorrow "I hope'........Regards.........Eugene52
