  • SI-TEX AV 107 Fishfinder/Sonar

The SI_TEX AV 107 sonar that I have switches between a 14 and 38 degree beam width. The head is supposedly 120 khz and a switch on an external black box changes between the beam widths.

I am interested to know how the change in beam width takes place.

I emailed SITEX and they just replied that the black box changes the beam width. Not a helpful answer.

What happens at the switch box or transducer to ultimately change beam width? Are there actually two transducers in the one typical looking transom mount unit? Do you have to change frequency to change beam width or is it something else in the element of the transducer or at the switch?

    Or?

It's my understanding that any sonar transmission (ie frequency and beam width) is a product of an electrical pulse and the ceramic element it is wired to.

I'm sure these questions are very elementary for many of the persons who have conversed in this forum, but I would sure appreciate having an answer that is more satisfactory and one that hopefully I can begin to understand.

    Thanks David
