Preferably complete and clear files, including PCB layout files (Sprint Layout or Gerber if available).

Harbor freight tools 97245 is a good cheap (17.99) pinpointer. I have one, and it has a range of about 1/2 inch, and will react to anything, including pin sized bits of iron, but it surely does help when pinpointing, and sorting through the removed soil. recommended.
