Detect 1 Gauss of magnetic field

Hi All ,

I am new to magnetic field sensing , i want to know what is best way to detect a magnetic field as low as 1 Gauss .

Should i employ a hall sensor or use a coil to detect it ?

Where 1 Gauss = .0001 Tesla

I have an old Walker Scientific Gaussmeter model MG-3d.

We are trying to get digital output from it for a computer.

Is anyone familiar with the interface and how we could go from the analog? output to digital via USB or other means?

Not certain what voltage...
