Surf 1.2 kit coil information

I'll get right to the point. I have ordered a surf pi kit from silverdog. My question here relates to the coil I can use. Can I only make a mono coil for the pcb board, or is it possible to wire in a dd coil. I am completely new to detectors, and am figuring with my background in wiring and soldering,...
