George, it was not OR but AND there in your passage )) the repair was not been of the board... board was OK... but a problem coil with snafu wires inside, if you want to know a cause. do not remember all those detectors are expensive in overseas shipping cost for me... that forces me to find unworking... so anyway i pay big customs duty.

- a µcontrolled one a display ist not necessary but ok, low part count and clear detection for 2€ coin 30cm in airwith 30cm coil, with vco sound or simple beep beep sound
- and simple analog one with max 4 trimpots, tested and proofed as working with a little stronger coil driver (my favourite is baracuda in this case but could be with more power)
favourite for µcontroller are the pic from microchip, favourite at lcd display is 1602 hd44780 because good standard and a lot of colours available around 4€
