To prevent exactly that; i made extra protective covers.
My book is still in very good shape.
Parts i want to reread again from time to time; i scanned.
That's the way how to preserve it for good.

Well I didn't have that chance, the binding on mine cracked/split on the first opening (I think glue was to dry or something), it was only a matter of a couple days till all the center pages fell out.

I'm gonna try to get another of the first edition just so I have one in complete solid condition to keep on my book shelf. The new one is on the "list to buy" as well..

Alright, that's factually a truth.
But in addition i wold like to see complete disclosure of some legendary (yet obsolete and discontinued (for obvious reasons)) model which had influence on md industry or was (and still is) very popular among hobbyists worldwide.
Reading patents (obscure and mostly plain gibberish, just to fill the form of patent) is one thing but reading "human" article from ee "who did it" is quite another thing.
I find rather exciting to read such indeed rare articles and collect them on my disks.
Would be much better to have those organized and refined in form of a book.

Some model that "changed the history" of metal detectors.
From the coil, through front end, across the each possible stage in it, ending with audio out and speaker... if you understand what i mean?
Explained literary in each possible aspect... something like; " this resistor value is there because of... this capacitor value makes the signal to act as..." etc...etc...

If I understand correctly, you're asking how the two methods compare as regards printing costs.

Edition 1 was self-printed and self-published. As far as up-front costs are concerned, this is the least expensive (per book), but it is also the most time consuming. Firstly you have to commit to a certain print run. In this case, we printed 1000 copies, which involved an initial outlay of money. Then books needed to be shipped across the pond to the UK (extra costs involved) and advertised on the internet. This (of course) required books to be placed in jiffy bags and posted far and wide. Book sales were more or less evenly distributed between eBay, Amazon and direct. The profit per book is higher, but so is the hassle.

Edition 2 is exclusively sold through Amazon (USA, UK and Europe). This is a print-on-demand service with fulfilment (i.e. order handling and shipping) by Amazon. The profit per book is much lower, but there is no direct involvement in sales and shipping by the author(s), and it is much easier for buyers to purchase a copy. Occasionally books also get lost in the post, and this is another problem with self-shipping.

At the end of the day, publishing via Amazon print-on-demand makes life a lot easier. The profits may be slightly lower, but I think it is the best solution. By the way, with Amazon print-on-demand, you have no obligation to commit to a certain number of copies. There is actually no problem if you only want to print one copy. The final advantage I can think of is that the book never goes out of print.

The are other print-on-demand services available, such as lulu.com, and the royalties can be much higher than with Amazon. However, not many people bother to search lulu (or even know about it) so you won't sell many copies.

Explained with "simple" and "human" words, so even a complete layman to be able to understand.
Each stage to be separately explained, few alternatives for such stage to be offered, presented... in manner: " ... this also could be done like this..." and "... in case it was done like this; blah blah this would be the result..."
Also; ideal choice would be some of legendary models that "changed the world" and "history"... though we can negotiate about that here on forums, which brand, which model etc...
Since book can be larger than that; even better if few (typical for their category) models are presented in such book.
Because there is no better learning than learning on practical and proven examples.
My personal wish would be if Dave Johnson take a part in such writings and do the contribution for the book from his perspective. Simply because he was the creator of few (for me) most significant and most important models in md History.
Certainly model 1265 was one of the most significant and left huge "mark" in md history. At the time maybe it's creators were not fully aware nor had exact intentions... but certainly that's what it became later.
Along with 1265 i also would be very happy to see similar article (or part in book) for White's, Tesoro and Cscope models too, Minelab and Garrett too.
Pick anyone of those, each brand is having own "milestone" from which things later turned in quite different direction.
I purposely am not naming here my latest favorite XP, simply because those are still fresh new and all their models are based on some MCU, which is not very attractive fact for such elaborations.
I would rather focus on completely "analogue" designs, for several reasons. Most of reasons does not need explanation, but most important is to keep things simpler and "human", quite suitable for educational purposes.
And as cherry on a cake; i would add Eric Fosters design as separate part in book too.
Also would be very nice to have few interviews and articles from leading ee's in these matters today.
That's what would present real and complete MD "Bible" for me, to carry it even on deserted island one day.
In this spirit; i would open new thread and debate on these pages, dedicated to ideas and propositions for the book "No.2".
I guess it is the time now to overgrow all the personal egos and collect all those splendid minds on one place and make them to work together on such "document".
Some kind of md legacy i guess.
Maybe i am just too naive... ?
But that's what i would like to see in a shape of a book one day.

Let's say ; something for bit more experienced enthusiasts.

I plan to scan it whole in time. So far i have scanned only 30-40 pages.
But in respect to authors i shall never share my scanned copies, of course.
Everything in between that i write here on forums are just jokes and humor.
Book is excellent. Book is one of a kind. Book is something which is MUST HAVE if you are MD diyer and enthusiast.
Since i am having first issue which is richer than second one; i am not indeed interested in obtaining second one.
Yet; i will look forward to see (and get) any eventual "book No.2" from the same authors... if they decide to make such step.
Weird humor and bad feelings aside; idea was splendid from the beginning.
By completing the first issue; authors did splendid job, my hat down!
But that should not be the end of a story, i hope.
Maybe is good time now to consider another book, "No.2" with more detailed articles, subjects, ideas and solutions.
Let's say ; something for bit more experienced enthusiasts.
Maybe even focused only one one practical project and all the aspects around it?
