  • Discrimination just does not work!!

Now I, in the past, noticed that discrimination, inside the TR DISCRIMINATION, did not really work. I notice that people, reading my two forums, also DO NOT post favoritism regarding Discrimation, as it just does not really work very well for we users!!!!!!!! Anyone argue with me on what I just said? NO??? That is because what I said is true!!!!!! Discrimination does not work. It works, but it really does not separate GOOD from BAD targets. That is because both come in at almost the same frequencies! Disc is for the birds!!!!!!!!!! Phase shift is too close each others signals, and circuits cannot separate the two GOOD from the BAD. If they could, they would have it working by now. It is crap!!!

So what do I do? I dig only the FAINT signals. That is usually the deep signals. That is what I am after, the deeper signals is the older signals! Any arguments with the truth??? They use phase shift, but it is the closest thing they use that works, Discrimination does not work.

If it did, they would have solved the discrimination between good targets versus bad targets. It does not work and they have not solved it yet with the technical things they use.

What works? The deeper the target, the most likely it is the older target. That is all I have found myself that I can tell you what is true and what is not true!! Discrimination does not work SO FAR!!!Maybe they will find some thing that works, but I have been detecting since 1954 and it is 2025 now, and no change in the electronics that I can say WORKS... any argument from anyone out there????

Anyone got an solution??? NO???????????????????????? Thats it?????????? That is what I figured too..........

I find the 2D map in ML Manticore is very useful. It gives me a clear idea about the target: ferrous, non-ferrous, or anything in between. It also tells me about the conductivity of the target. Add to that the target ID numbers that comes up on the screen. Not to mention the multi tones & pitches feature which you can adjust to meet your needs. I'm still learning the machine since I got it about 3 months ago, however I know it's got more capabilities than what I already have learned. Cheers

      Hi Nightryder,
If there is more than one cure for a disease, it is likely that the disease is incurable. Many options - many conclusions.

        Hi Detectorist,

These features were meant to assist you to dig out less junk & more treasure nothing more. After all, you're the one with the brain not the machine. Cheers!

I tend to agree. When I still had and used regularly my old Whites 5000 series 3 metal detector I would hunt many times in all metal. The deepest silver coin I ever dug in my life came this way. It was a silver quarter and was probably down about a foot and a half in a farm field that was mainly sandy soil. I was using the 11 inch coil and I heard a very very faint signal. When I flipped over to discrimination the threshold remained exactly the same over the target. I also dug many deep silver coins with my Mark 1 using the same method. I would hear a really deep signal in all metal and flip over to discriminate and if the needle bounced up to the right at all I would dig it.

Disc was invented by marketing and smart engineering ... its true purpose is to leave good targets in the ground for the real detectorists.

              Hi moodz,
For PI detectors ( and not only) the shovel is only good discrimination option.

This patent does for movies what VDI does for metal detectors ....
