He is right about the chinese. I've seing rebranded even more complicated chips(comunication, sound processor etc), what about a simple opamp or regulator. So it really make sence where you source the ic's from, despite there is a risk again. However we are talking about the ideal case, when you sure you have real LT1054. And i'm so stuborn to continue the argument cause KT315 him self recommend LT1054 as the best choice:-)))) Anyway. PEACE

If I have time, I'll try switching to the NE555 to generate the negative voltage
The translator sucks

i say you again. you are living in the world of mirrored illusion. chinese do all electronics in the world.
ALL. WHOLE.
they do ANY chip you want! if you want LT1054 you will get LT1054 but in reality that is remarked 7660.
THEY ARE EASELY REMARKING LM358 ON TL062! this world and time we are living in is absolutely CRAZY!

full nonsense.
If you do not trust me trust the datasheet - http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lt1054.pdf
Meantime, do you get commision from the "Inside the detector " authors??? :-)))

Thanks for the answer Quiaozhi. i was the one to ask about Surf but no one answer me in that topic. I was almost sure as in surf the power go first to 7805, just needed confirmation.Originally posted by Qiaozhi View PostOf course you can redesign the circuit to eliminate the need for the LT1054, but that's not the point. The purpose of the Geotech Baracuda Rev-A is to maintain the overall original design, but to fix the design faults and unreliability issues. The LT1054 is a superior device compared to the ICL7660. In my experience the ICL7660 will let out the magic smoke at every opportunity.
In another post you mentioned the Surf-PI. That is a different design that does not stress the ICL7660, as it's powered from a linear regulator.
For those who are against LT1054 there was discussion few days ago about the charged 18650 Lipo batteries which are 4.2volts. Simple mats show that 3x4.2=12.6volts which is a good reason to make fireworks from 7660;-). So i think is worth payng once 5 euro than several times one euro, not counting the waste of time soldering, desoldering, swearwords, swet and all the rest inconveniences. Plus it is a low drop solution if i'm not wrong.

Here in Germany the 1054 costs about 5 euros.
I think that's too expensive.
I ordered some in china, but they smoked.
Currently I use the 7660, which costs under one euro.

What do you mean by too expensive?Originally posted by Andi68 View PostI mean, circuitry can be solved without the too expensive LT1054
If I check the UK Farnell website, the ICL7660A is £1.28 for one IC, and the LT1054 is £2.46.
The difference of £1.18 is hardly going to break the bank. Especially when you consider that you'll eventually let the magic smoke out of the ICL7660A anyway, and have to replace it.

The LT1054 is pin compatible with the 7660A. Just swap it out.Originally posted by nonkapo View PostGood morning all. Quick question, since you mention about LT1054. If i like to retrofit the old board with it is it plug and play swap with 7660 or i have to adjust something?
Thank you
