One thing I know I can say is that if Aziz believes his modelling is conclusively demonstrating that a spider wound coil is the best out there, he needs to review his modelling algorithms.

Please, please, use only ML stock coils. Don't buy or build the next generation of PI coils.

... Its 70 grams lighter than the lightest commercial coil we tested ( thats not a claim thats a fact )

... the detector does not go off when you bump a tree with the coil ( like the one of the commercial coils we were using did ... another fact)

No one said it wouldn't work Moodz. You could string hat pins together and make a working coil if that is what you want to do. We have had claims made for the spider wound design that have not been able to be substantiated. Would you like to put money on the performance of your 18" spider wound coil against a non-spider wound 18" coil??

The bottom line is that if you are a maker you can build your own coil for 10% to 20% cost of a commercial coil maybe less if you have the makings already. Some here make out you need to be some sort of "coil designer". Ooooooer .... I guess I better go dig some holes and put back what I found because your so called experts reckon it wouldn't work.

As for sensitivity it was no different to a identically sized commercial coil tried on 3 different detectors.
end of argument. The width of the basket weave is only 25mm so it's basically a flattened bundle anyway and bugger all difference on a 45 cm diameter.

Hi Kev,

I didn't know the exact coil wire thickness and the accurate dimensions of the coil. I have estimated the parameters in my coil simulation. We can see, that it isn't really required to use a basket/spider weave coil technique.

The performance depends on how many extra turns count you can make to a coil compared to an equivalent stock coil.

The result of this analysis may answer the interesting question, why some coil brands perform better even they have same dimension, Litz-wire, L, R and Q. It must have to do with the compactness (thickness) of the coil bundle. There must be at least an extra winding turn in the better coils.

I like the sceptics ignoring the hard facts... They will never use this magnificient new finding and clean out the ground... More gold for us.. *LOL*
