i have tested my stuart today bat non work very well !!!
i don' t have use original pcb bat i have redraw it with schematic i have use 741 op. amp. a detect 1 euro cent at 15 cm. !!!
whit the lm 318 op. amp. i detect 1 euro cent at 1 cm .... no good !!!

yuor schematic and pcb is original ??

please, use the lm318p is really faster and better quality than 741

i have replace 741> lm318 p, i use D1=1N5817, X1=32, ...KHz, IC4=4066, TR4-TR5=bc558, C1 2200uF, C2-C7-C8 =100uF, C3=10uF, TR1 IRF740; the boost supply is ok (15v), my coil diam. 19 cm, 27 turn.

i have tested my new coplanar coil : i detect 50€ cent at 30cm, 10€ cent 26cm, 1€ cent 20 cm (not 25 cm!!!), 30x10 cm metal +80 cm. The stuart 1 M.D. is good bat my tiny PI metal detector is strong .........(50€ cent +40cm.).

Has any one tried cutting the stages on the 4040 to bring the sampling down? The original schematic is set for a sample rate of 50us and uses 5 stages of the chip. At 10us per stage you can bypass one stage to bring your sample rate down by 10 us. With a hot coil it may find small gold.??
