I've got a 5" dd coil for my f75. It will only id non ferous targets to about 6". After that it gives a solid iron audio and id numbers. Never had this happen. Stock 11" coil has no issues even at sensitivity of 0.. These targets have been in my test garden for 8+ years. Never had a machine id these targets as iron before. Any way I could check the coil with a meter?

The fact that it works tells me it's not got a wiring fault with the TX or RX coils, it's possible the screen/shield may be faulty. I had the shield wire break (inside the control box) and it was very noisy, picked up the ground terribly, wouldn't GroundGrab. This doesn't sound like your problem.
So, it used to be better, but now it's not so good? Have you used it underwater, maybe? It may have got water in it somehow, so leave it out in a warm place for a long time, see if it improves.
You have 'bad ground', I recall, so ID-ing as iron on deeper targets sounds like perfectly normal behaviour.
Seeing as you asked, here's resistance measurements for the connector:
Pin1 - Pin2: 36 Ohms
Pin3 - Pin4: 1.8 Ohms
Pin 5 = shield, no connection to any other pin.
You can remove the metal case of the coil connector easily, if you want to visually inspect the solder joints etc. Remove the two screws holding the cable clamp. Remove the single screw locking the metal body to the black plastic part. Twist the body 10 degrees then pull it back from the plastic part. -
Actually this is the first time ever using this particular coil.
I've read where heavy mineralization combined with depth would cause this type of response, but I've never had it occur or rather that I knew of. Now on the other hand, it might have been happening for years and I'd never know except this is in my test garden and I know were each target is.
I had almost the same thing happen with a F5 and the stock coil a few years ago. Could not get a good response on the same targets (anything deeper than 6 1/2" deep). Sent the unit back and the factory determined the coil was bad.
All and all this might be perfectly normal behavior for my ground, this coil and the depth of targets.

Different machine, different coil. I believe I have discovered the limits of the small coil in my area. Always learningComment

Figured it all out, coil is good, no issues.
And no, it's not complaining as Skippy thinks, just learning by asking questions of intelligent people who might know more than me.Comment
