  • Glue for Coil Cover?

I finally purchased a brand new coil!

I got a coil cover to protect it and wonder what to use to glue it on?

I thought crazy glue or gorilla glue with RTV around the seam but not
    sure. What do you use?

coil covers should be clipped on or fixed with velcro tape
between the coil bootom and the protection Shell is a bit space
water and dust can accumulate there so it is Importen than you can remove the cover plate from time by time to clean it
i heard often from that peolple had Problem with falsing if water is rinsed betwenn coil Body and Shell
(it is same like wet grass Problem)

Laugh if you want but it works. Tooth Paste. The covers don't need to glued as they stay put. The tooth Past keep the dirt out from between the two. Come time to change the cover worm water breaks it down and off it comes.

i did write to use THE glue for PVC? a silicone is the best choice and anytime you can delete the cover.

              Well I bought some of this stuff as mentioned on another site;

              http://www.ebay.com/itm/322079578341...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It will seal water and dirt out and can be scored and the cover removed if need be so seems like a good choice!

why you do always YOUR choice so for what you asked????? you absolutely do not wish to hear people suggestion!

liquid nails is good, but has active dissolder. it may warp the PVC.

I am looking for any and all input. This topic is not discussed often. I was hoping something would
come with the cover. I received it without instructions. I haven't received the coil yet so have not
fully decided on the best option.

It seems you may want to remove it at some point so permanent glues are less desirable. RTV's
could be a good choice but some are soft and they are hard to make look nice. I'm not sure about
things like tooth paste. I'd have to see it done by someone else first.

The goo was the first thing that seemed to reasonably meet all criteria. I still would like to see
                    what the manufacturers recommend...

Actually in reading around the Goo is a bad choice as it is hard to spread. RTV seems the better choice...

I suspect this subject is not often discussed because it's not normal to glue them on. They are normally clip-on, though some are so darn tight you might break them trying to remove them.....so semi-permanent fixing is useful when you've broken the clips.
One problem with using RTV silicone sealant is it cures from the surface, only to a shallow depth, so you can't fill the space beween coil and cover, for example. That GOOP product may have similar issues.
It's possible products like Sugru may be useful, or there's 'home-made Sugru' for those who like experimenting.

                      http://www.instructables.com/id/Home-Made-Sugru/

I personally use electrical insulating tape to fix a home-made polypropylene cover to my hard-working 5 inch round coil. It seems to last reasonably well, though I was going to try the 'sugru-substitute' some time. Polypropylene is slippery stuff, which is why I chose it for a cover, but that makes it harder to fix, too.....
I was also intending to make a smooth-bottom cover for my Fisher's 11" x 7" (the Fisher/Teknetics cuttlefish one), as the official cover is just the same as the coil, full of holes that catch on vegetation all the time. As this is home-made, it will need fixing, again.

I used to work for an underground radar company and we glued poly using neoprene glue.
If you have a large flat area it holds somewhat. I used to see them heating it with a torch
to "oxidize" the surface for better attachment.

I have a CZ-6 coil that has some sort of weird paint and a cover on it. I had to pry a bit and
broke it somewhat but it came off so there was no glue used. I'll leave that one off as the coil
is old and heavy so time to wear it out!

I did find dirt inside that old cover so maybe I won't use the new cover I got for the 8" or I'll
try to seal the seam somehow...

Your making this harder then it is. Just seal the gap between cover and coil to keep the sand out.
