Can i use Hot Glue or something else for the whole Coil?
I have a little bit of epoxy but not enough. Can i fill the rest of the space with hot glue or acrylic mass?
Can i fill the whole coil with hot glue, step by step?
Best bet is "MG chemicals 832B". I had a customer suggest "Max MCR Black a/b" but have not tried it yet. Looks similar but cheaper.
Don
This guy uses a screw to null the coils during the hardening process.
I think it is quite brilliant method though! I like it!
A guy made his own and proven method, which he can rely on.
Point is... he discovered proper amount of balance and later disbalance which is correctly compensated with presence of that particular screw.
Excellent, sweet and easy method for diyers!
And yes it is true; once balanced coil later can easy lose the balance when filled.
That's why you have to fix it very good and do all the process in temperature stable environment.
Some types of epoxy when mixed can generate certain amount of heat for shorter time; that's why is very important to fix the coils very good before filling.
I checked my epoxy , its probably enough to fill 1cm in the housing. I need to mix two epoxies together i hope this works.
I think this will fix the coils and then i can fill the rest with acrylic mass or hotglue or anything.
Do you think this works?
If not what about Polyester Resin? I can get 1kg for 6 euros.
I made a few things with epoxy in the past and i saw that it is very fragile. Can it break inside the housing without filling material (Microballoons)?
And can acrylic mass or silicone/hot glue influence the depht from the coil?
You have to balance coils precisely and temporary fix them with something that is not temperature dependent.
I used "super glue" several times. Just on overlapping sections, to fix coil and to keep balance.
Coils are put in enclosure, balanced and "super glue" - ed.
I am pretty nerdy so i do check the balance every minute or two in next half an hour. I am doing that in room with stable temperature.
If the balance is alright after half an hour; i pour the epoxy in enclosure, over the coils, especially on overlapping areas.
Than it stays like that for 24 hours. Depends on type of epoxy, i am using "slow" one.
Next day i am finishing the rest with anything that is lightweight.
Polyester can be alright for finishing phase. Not good for fixing coils, because it generates significant heat during the chemical process which last for 20 minutes and so.
Once i had accident; polyester melted my coil enclosure just like that!
I made mistake in dosing the components.

What kind of coil, for PI or IB detector?
For PI; yes.
For IB; forget about it!
For both; hot glue will dramatically add on weight.
In case you are passionated bodybuilder than do that!
Hot glue is temperature sensitive and if you use it on balanced IB coil; that balance will last only few minutes!
But you can use hot glue in a "spotty" fashion only to temporary fix the coil until you perform balancing.
