    The other pins are not used. The MX Sport was in very early development when I left but I selected the M12 8-pin connector as the new standard. The other 4 pins were for power (+/-) and serial data (clk,data). The intent was to include the preamp, micro, and accelerometer in the coil. That didn't happen.
    These images from detectorprospector.com suggest that all 8 pins are wired to the PCB and there are traces leading from each of the loop connector pins. Would they wire up all the coil pins if they are not all used?

      Probably they went ahead and used the 8-pin connector and 8-wire harness in anticipation of adding the omitted features, in order to minimize later hardware changes. It was a very unstable time, many engineers coming and going.

        There seems to be a connection between pins 6 and 7 with ~ 1.68 kΩ resistance. Any idea what that might be?
