Infinium Monos
The only components that I can invisage with fair certainty, in the mono coils, is two voltage limiting diodes connected between the coils. Whether there is a damping resistance I do not know. This may not be necessary with the diodes being fitted. They would have to be able to switch on and off pretty smartly at the required voltage which at a very uneducated guess may be in the order of 500 volts.
Just an opinion.
Cheers

How to approach making a coil for Infinium

ABOUT WEST COILS, ONCE TALKED TO A COIL MAKER ABOUT HOW THE WEST COILS WHERE MADE, HE SAID NONE OF THERE COILS HAD ANY THING BEYOND A RESISTOR. BOTH MONO AND DD, MONO'S WHERE CONFIGURED LIKE A CONCENTRIC. CONCENTRIC PI COILS ARE MADE FOR OTHER PI MD'S!

Can anyone tell me if there is active components in the mono coil? Has anyone opened one? I have some test coil from Rov but like to make sure it's correct before connecting.

Hi Rov, many thanks for the coil sacrifice and the information. Very interesting. Do you know which is the TX and which is the RX?
I'm surprised there are no active components inside. Perhaps only the Mono has active components?
Cheers

Yes echo this diagram appears correct.
I did a recount of turns wound for the Black kynar wire coil ,was 42 turns. so please amend.
did a quick check of each coil for L=0.56uH for brown coil.an L=249.4uH for the black coil with No resistor in circuit.hope this may match for you.
As for Plug pinouts.
From front face of plug which is stepped in shape.
Top left exposed pin is Green
Top right exposed pin is red
Lower left pin socket is Black, with screen an Foil wrap to this.
Lower right pin socket is White.
Yes the 5 core coil cable is foil wrapped in the sheath an cable has polycore twine reinforcing for added strenght an stretch resistance.
The Metal of the plug housing an knurled ring is not connected to anyscreen wire or other.

Hi Rov,
thanks very much for posting the Double D configuration.
I have drawn up a basic diagram to show the connectivity and I'll buzz out the pins on the multipin connector and identify which pin goes to each color.
I also have an inductance meter so I'll also measure both coils and I'm hoping that the 680 ohm resistor won't throw out the inductance reading too much.Attached Files

I'm interested in a 18" mono. If you have info please email me.

Hi Tim,these 18inchers,they DF or is it a mono?
Can do a Mono at 18 with screening without too much effort for a Infinium, but a DF will take a bit more build time.maybe adapt the winds spec from DD towards a DF.is achievable for the infinium.is Ok.still essentially a mono for the circuit to see an drive. overall.
An No you dont blow the front end!Dont perpetuate the Myth.
An inherent weak front end, drive circuit will fail in time on its own.U keep all your initial wind an build spec. parameter right,no problems.the infinium front end is more resiliant than you think.

I have a friend that sells 18 coils for the whites TDI coil. I will have a page for him soon on my site. From what I hear they work very well.

a few spec from an Infinium 10x5 Eliptical Power DD coil.
5 core cable
White to Brown of coil half one
Green to Brown of coil half one
Red to Black of coil half two
Black to Black of coil halve two
Screen wire connected to the two halves of coil shell (two halves of coil shell are Electrodag coated/painted)
the Brown coil is 26T light duty tin plated multistrand hook up style wire pvc coated
the resistance of this coil 0.9ohms
the black coil is 40T light single strand Kynar wire.
the resistance of this coil is 7.4 ohms (with no resistor across)
internally across this black coil wired in parallel is a 1/4w resistor 680
color code,blue,gray,brown,gold.
At this time i do not have the inductance values for these individual coils, but these few spec gives you the essential towards this DD infinium coil
Note the coils are wound bundle style an heavy hot melt glue bonded to a foam eliptical dd shape former.in an original.this foam former is not electrodag coated only the two coil shells.
there is no epoxy in these coil shells ,only great quantity of hot melt glue bonding.
hope this helps those that may have an interest towards built their own?
as time allows will try to post some photos of the actual coil shells an windings exposed.an you will see no high science here?for the Infinium coils.
regards Rov

I would like to build one of these also. I bet am 18" would hit some deep cannon balls with the Arc-Geo! Count me in.
