  • TESORO COMPATIBLE COILS

    Hi all,

Carl, if this post is out of line then please feel free to delete it.

    As Tesoro coils are;

    1) Not very well made (IMHO).

    2) Far too expensive.

I decided to do something about it. If you plan to build one of Tesoro's machines from any of the circuit diagrams on this forum, then you might be interested in the search head I have designed, and had made for me.

I have 100 of these heads at the moment, and plan more if they sell well.

They are BETTER than the Tesoro 10" head (performance wise). So, to save all the time and effort of making search heads, you could buy one of these.

BTW, I THINK it might also work with the PE Magnum. No promises, but Andy Flind is checking this out at the present.

Likewise, if you just wish to modify a Tesoro design and do a "self design/build" then one of these heads is an excellent place to start, as it eliminates one more variable from the complex equation.

To see FULL details, click the link below and click "For Sale" in the menu on the left. Click on the green 11.5" Webcoil link.

    ENJOY!!!

    Re: TESORO COMPATIBLE COILS

Do you have any plans to make a coil this size for the Lobo ST or for the New Tesoro Tejon which both use the same coils? IMHO the one big thing missing in the Tesoro LST Coil Lineup has been a Spider Style 11 or 12 inch Waterproof Concentric Coil!!!! It looks like the one that you have made for the other Tesoro's is just what the Doctor ordered!!!

    Thanks

      Re: TESORO COMPATIBLE COILS

I don't mind, as long as it's in the spirit of the forum.

But... why do you think Tesoro coils are not well-made? Don't think I've ever seen any complaints about them. I visited the factory, saw how they're made, and it all looked very high quality.

Price-wise, they are in line with what other detector companies charge, and they all seem high-priced to me, considering that the whole thing is just a couple of inductors. However, when you consider they are essentially hand-made and aligned, and they are a phenomenally low-volume product, the price begins to appear more realistic.

An independent coil manufacturer can certainly produce and sell coils for a lower price, providing that is not his primary business (you'll starve!). Interestingly, you could gain a larger advantage if you spread overhead costs amongst several brands. By making essentially identical coils for Fisher, White's, Garrett, Minelab, and Bounty Hunter, you will have zero additional tooling costs.

        Re: TESORO COMPATIBLE COILS

        Hi Carl, Beachcomber.

I'm afraid it was a shameless plug, but I thought it would help those struggling to make their own coils, by providing a cheaper alternative.

As you can see from my website, I repair detectors, and one of the BIGGEST problems, we see over here in the UK is Tesoro search head failure. They drift and go out of tune due to the foam they use inside. It continues to cure for years after the coils are made, this cuases the coils to move and thus upsets the balance.

Might be that we in the UK just get palmed off with the reject stuff (allegedly) OR just that we detects a LOT more than you guys over the "Pond" so our equipment takes more of a hammering.

I'll look into coils for the LST and Tejon as I'm getting a LOT of requests from other people.

Watch my website for news if I can get one made up.

BTW, in the magazine report in "Treasure Hunting", my coils outperformed the Tesoro 11" coil, and is about 1/2 the price!! :P

          Thanks Sean...I'll be...

watching your website to see if an those coils become available in an LST/Tejon version as I would be one of the first customers to order one!!!!!!!! It's something I could have used for a long time!!!!
