    coil readings

can you work out which is RX or TX from the values as the person who done the test on coils
hasnt mentioned nothing about them(he may not know as he repairs tvs)anyway this is what hes give me
    TESORO DD COIL
GREEN WIRE INNER AND OUTER, PIN NUMBERS 4,2 /1.5mh
RED WIRE INNER AND OUTER,PIN NUMBERS 3,1 /1mh

    REDHEAT COIL
    RED AND BLACK WIRE,PIN NUMBERS 1,2 /5.6mh
WHITE AND GREEN WIRE,PIN NUMBERS 3,4/5.4mh

The other two would then go to the RX coil. A simple continuity test would determine if the RC coil is isolated from the TX.

Could you open the RedHeat control box and find out which wires got to the TX and RX circuits? Or maybe post a photo?
As the redheat detectors were only made by the bloke that built them he was very strict about privacy and every detector he made was sealed you can not get into them without damaging them he sealed every unit he said it was for water proofing purposes but i think he didnt want any one looking inside them,im having coils checked at 3pm today so ill post results as soon as i get them

    1. You have a 4-pin Tesoro coil, which I think has approximately 1mH for the TX, and 6.5mH or even higher for the RX. Would be good to check this.
    2. Checking both coils with the same meter will average out any measurement errors.

Of course, we will also need the pin numbers and wire colors.

There was a Red Heat detector on eBay recently without a coil, and the seller stated that no other commercial coils would fit. Although I have heard the Red Heat is similar to the Tesoro designs, so he may have only been referring to the plug arrangement. It's possible that a Tesoro coil might be re-wired to work, but you would need an inductance meter to do this successfully. There are so many permutations when it comes to search coils that you are unlikely to succeed by randomly swapping connections.

Where do you live? Maybe another Geotech member could help you.

Can i damage detector if i try diff make coil?

Hi i have a redheat mk IIII it is four pin like my tesoro DD coil, plugs are very similar and the cable looks identical, both machines run on the same voltage(battery wise anyway)and i know the tesoro coil will cater for 14khz to 18khz,i dont know what freq the red heat runs at,ive changed plugs on tesoro 4 pins before so i know theres two wires inside with inner and outer cores and i know what numbers they go to on the plug, what are the chances of me taking plug off redheat coil and finding same color wires to connect up like on tesoro 4 pins, and trying it,or if diff wire colors keep swapping around untill i get it right, could i damage detector doing this or maybe coil as i have a spare coil for redheat and i also have an old tesoro polo coil with no plug on i was thinking about using the polo as a test piece untill i work configeration out,any help on this would be greatly appreciated, cheers wayne.
