    With outer coil diameter being 1, I wish to see coils at rim to rim distance of 0.42, while for other parameters you may use anything you wish, say d/D=1/3, say 20 turns or something

    I think the separation between the 2 coils is critical. Could you try to find the best position?

    It will probably be proportional to the coil diameter.

    It may also depend on the field strength.

    If I may be picky, a tandem with counterphases, in single layer spiral, as per Tesla. Boy! It must be interesting! I am especially interested in spirals that are separated by D*(√2-1), or a little bit more.

    I am thinking of self adhesive aluminum tape rolls as a perfect spiral coil solution. I'm not sure how practical it could become, but if it is viable, perhaps it will be the most straightforward method of obtaining matched coils in the Universe.     Hi Aziz,

    thanks for offering your help.

    Intuitively the TANDEM COIL has some specific advantages. Vertical targets give a weak response with traditional coils. With the TANDEM COIL, there is a large field vector that would hit a vertical target on it's side and should therefore generate a stronger response.

    The TANDEM COIL also allows for an interesting variation of RX coil combination. One could use a single rectangular (or center tapped) coil across the 2 TX coils, where the physical structure would be reinforced as well as the RX would be balanced.
    Another variation would be 2 RX coils, one in the center of each TX coil.
    Another variation would be 3 RX coils, one at the center of each TX coil and one across the center.
    There are many other variations possible, including anti-interference variations.

    I did build a TANDEM COIL some years ago and was very satisfied with the performance.

    Would you be so kind, to run a TANDEM COIL model in your software?
    I think the basic coil disposition should be with the 2 coils aiding, but the 2 coils opposing also has some (different) merit.

    Just found it, thanks Tinkerer. The script works like a dream. It would be a tad better if I could enter my own coil designs.

    I'll have your kind offer in mind when I manage to design something that is not already in use /patented /misunderstood etc.

    This tandem coil thing with counter phases (a torus stand-in) works exactly as I imagined it, and I think it must work well in "monocoil" solutions.

    The Avatar is from a magnetic field visualization made by MIT. I think they use MAXWELL, BY ANSOFT. Ansoft used to distribute a free 2D magnetic field software Maxwell 2D. I think it is excellent but I have not had the time to really break through the learning curve.

    For a visualization of coil fields, compare the 2 pictures below.

    With the current in the 2 coils running in the same direction, the fields are aiding.

    With the current in the 2 coils running in opposed direction, the opposing fields repel.

    A RX coil positioned in the position where the magnetic fields are rarefied, will sense only a weak TX. This is what we use to reduce the Flyback peak, in the RX. We call it a Bucking coil.

    You have nice visualisations, including the one in your avatar. I am seeking some software without learning curves, and I hope you can recommend some. It is often straining job to picture all these configurations in my head.
