Hello all experts. I opened my one 8 FBS coil and found under coil top plastic cover 3 inch long metal wire. my question why Minelab putted hear wire and why only around 3 inches? thank you alllll! Stasys

I think that the coil has outside a graphite layer. So if the wire is connected to gnd then it is the shielding wire of the coil. If nothing is connected to the wire, then i don't knowOriginally posted by delete52 View PostCould be a earthwire that is connected to the shielding. Could be why it is only 3" long.

Is the plastic case made from conductive plastic, like that used for electronic component anti-static boxes? A simple multimeter test should confirm this. You wont always notice if such shielding is missing, until you try it in difficult conditions, such as long wet grass, when it could false-trigger excessively. Regards.
