The TDI can in fact detect low conductors in heavy iron areas. But a silver dime in these areas is another story. The dime and nail give the same tone in this dirt, even with the delay at 20 but in good ground I and tell the difference. Now I will say, the TDI has found the heaviest gold jewelry in these bad sites and that is its main function for me. That was the main reason I bought it over a decade ago. Now think of this, you're hunting for low conductors at an old school where coal waste has been discarded for decades. This waste causes many issues for a regular VLF, maybe if you lucky a good ID at 3-4" maximum depth, else iron grunt. Many activities at this school, many beer pull tabs and beaver tails. Since I usually hunt for low conductors my good gold targets to bad (pull tabs) maybe as much as 100/1. Thats a lot of digging.

Thanks for providing the source. I would honestly think that if Tom D reckons the Tarsacci would 'open your eyes' in a coal-waste infested ground, then you should look out for a previously-owned one for sale. I interpret his "closest thing to a PI" line as referring to getting depth in difficult ground, with useful ID as a bonus. I've no idea how deep the Equinox is in your ground without ID, presumably the expectation is the Tarsacci will be deeper WITH ID, though not necessarily deeper without ID.

Mr KT : When Tom said " It is a bridge machine" , he did not mean an electronic "bridge" , like a Wheatstone Bridge, or a Bridge Rectifier. He means a link between two technologies, like a bridge over the Danube links Buda and Pest.

Well, I have a guy that is sending me his Tarsacci to use. Should be here next week. Sure there will be a steep learning curve but I'm up to it. I love figuring out new machines. Coal slack and bad ground combined should be the real test for me.

Wow, what and idea. I would like thoughts on exactly the term, "true time domain processing; that is looking at the exponential curvatures" I've read where the salt balance setting is not really salt balance but just a name give to the adjustment. Would it be similar to the delay settings on the TDI, or am I thinking in the wrong direction? I've had the loaner Tarsacci for a couple weeks now and it would be a great help to know exactly what is being changed in the salt balance settings? I have a few locations where a silent SB can never be obtained. The detector always responds regardless of the SB settings.Originally posted by Carl-NC View PostAFAIK, Tarsacci is a different approach than anyone else is doing. It is a VLF that uses true time domain processing; that is, looking at the exponential curvatures. Read the patent, it's interesting.
I will say, in mild to low mineralized soil I can find no advantage of this machine over another. It was designed for beach hunting first with inland relic hunting in high mineralized ground areas next, or that is what I've read.
Anyway, any of the technical geeks can contribute to an explanation of the patent.

"Can any of the technical geeks contribute to an explanation of the patent?"
I tracked down the patent three years ago:

.... but still haven't found enough enthusiasm to wade into the details. So , sorry, I can't help. But it's not that important how it works , what matters is how does the end result perform?

Tarsacci - търсачи - seekers
Out of boredom, let's do some research and genealogy.
It seems that the word "Tarsacci" is derived directly from the Bulgarian word "търсачи" which means seekers.
Everything fits. Even the meaning of the name.
The root of the activity is actually in the name. But also the derived word "Tarsacci" sounds authentic, original and good for the brand.
I watched the Youtube video a couple of times, in detail.
In some aspects of the behavior of the detector, I noticed some small peculiarities that all indicate the origin of the detector.
Although the website clearly and unequivocally says "Made in USA" and there is an additional text in "About" about how proud the manufacturers are who assemble their machines in the USA... I think this is the same story as with "Made in Germany", which I have written about several times on the forum.
We have also been aware of the market incompatibility between the USA and the rest of the world, especially the EU. Well, everything that crosses the border from one side to the other; must undergo minor or major rebranding and alterations.
Only the Biggest and Strongest (ML) are spared this, for the simple reason that they are rich and strong enough.
So... don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming anything here because I don't have a single piece of material evidence, I just have some small clues and suspicions.
But I am convinced that Tarsacci is a Bulgarian detector, adapted to the American market. And even with the fact that it might even be happening there.
It is imported into the USA as a semi-finished product (customs and taxes are lower) and assembled there somewhere in a private "hangar" or "basement".
Because literally nothing on that detector has an American "feel".
The very cheap and low-quality plastic of the detector box (you can clearly hear the character in the video accidentally tapping it with his fingers) sounds "hollow" and has the sharp "distortion" sound of cheap plastic, but also gives off a very light material.
"Carbon" rod and parts of cheap carbon tubes; nowadays it is almost a trademark of new Turkish and Bulgarian detectors (old habits are hard to change and that approach is also the cheapest). Far from the high-quality carbon tubes that Minelab uses in some of its models.
Quite colorful and not so sweet colors front panel. Rather uninventive design of the front panel.
Performance. The behavior, the sound, the response, the characteristic "click" at the edges of the target detections and also when pressing the soft buttons... shows that it is a very "light" design based on some of today's modern and inexpensive development environments.
Audio detection and sound behavior; it reminds me (but also betrays) several well-known Bulgarian detector models that I have had the opportunity to see.
I also have "AKA Smart Pulse" in mind as I think about this.
And I also remember the behavior of some Detech models, some Vista models etc.
It does not mean that it is the same source, but it is a well-known fact that in Bulgaria you have "thousands" of brands and models, all of which are "different" and actually originate more or less from one and the same basic model. These are only further upgrades.
Bulgarians are otherwise very intelligent and enterprising people, when we talk about metal detectors. They went the farthest in the region. Several of them made their way into the world. Made enviable successes.
What are the chances that one of them found a way to enter the US market; big!
How good is this detector really? No less and no more than the already existing better Bulgarian attempts.
Someone will take this post of mine as a malicious provocation; wrong!
Bulgarians are my neighbors, I have a lot of friends there. I admire their ingenuity and the successes they have achieved so far.
This post is only in the service of investigation, to find out as much as possible about that brand as well as about the real genealogy of those detectors (if there are more, for now I only know about one model).
Success in business requires not only performance and quality, but also a lot of wisdom, creating intrigue, covering tracks and giving as little valid information as possible.
That's my take on this for now. Doesn't mean I'm right. I often draw the wrong conclusions.

... additional thoughts:
After watching more videos... where would I place this model on the chart?
Well, somewhere in the place where it would be written "good enough and usable".
And what criticism would be adequate for this model? Over inflated price!
Because for half the money, ML has the Equinox series, which instills much more confidence.
A typical mistake that many Turks and Bulgarians make when they enter foreign markets.
Instead of approaching the story modestly, giving realistic prices to their products and selling 1000 times larger quantities for a little bit along the way, they immediately start with ridiculously high prices, sell "a dozen" pieces and stop there.
And they disappear very quickly.
They should learn from the Chinese. That's not how the Chinese conquered the world.
And the old business truth is that when you have a product for the mass market; you never go with high price tactics.
And if your target group is only 1% of the super rich; then you have to offer something that competes with the best, in simple words you have to beat Minelab in that race. And that is not possible.
... more additiona thoughts:
Older members of the forum know how much I loved XP Deus 1.
I still keep it and use it.
Some would say that I am their lifelong fan and always write in their favor.
It's not like that.
I am absolutely objectified about it and equally cruel to everyone.
For a very brief period of several years, XP was dangerously threatening to beat Minelab in that race.
And then they started making catastrophic mistakes and today it is clear that they have totally lost the race with Minelab.
Minelab remained the only one at the top. Everyone else is deep below in the dark.
Did I change teams and now root for Minelab? Of course not.
To this day, I exclusively use the XP Deus 1 as my main working detector.
Is that why I side with XP. Of course not. In my opinion, they are a thing of the past and heavy losers in the race with Minelab.
Will I ever go back to Minelab as my main work machine again?
Maybe.
When Minelab listens to me and packs a machine with Manticore performance in a package similar to the Vanquish model.
Because this new "fashion" with vertical detector boxes, with a very high coil connector... it annoys me terribly and is reason enough to never think of using such a detector, no matter how good it is.
...
And of course, the last, most important requirement for Minelab; on that new detector, which will have Manticore performance and a Vanquish-like box design; must clearly state: "made by Ivconic demands"!
