Garrett ATX discontinued!

Sadly, the Garrett ATX manufacturing was discontinued earlier this year. That's why I've been on rush mode since I heard the news, to buy every ATX coil size that I don't have.

I don't understand what went wrong in Garrett marketing dept. The ATX was definitely not a light machine (3 KG), but so was the ML GPX serie (4500-5000). The GPX 5000 may generally exceeded the atx depth wise by an inch or so, but the ATX could detect sub-gram gold nuggets which GPX would never see. The fully waterproof ATX was convincing to purchase when it comes to its price especially when comparing it with its competitors. Now that GPX (4500-5000) were discontinued, this should have been the golden time for ATX.


I didn't want to be the bad news reporter here, but I had to talk about it and get it out of my system. That's why I waited a couple of months before I wrote this.

I think when Garrett released the new PI detector AXIOM I felt a little like the ATX would start counting down the days until it would be produced again...
Military compact and waterproof and heavy design ATX may not be for everyone.. I really like it..
One of the downsides of ATX are the replaceable coils that you buy with a heavy massive telescopic shaft.. therefore these coils cost extra money,,which also affects the overall weight of the detector..which could otherwise be lighter..

One of the good things about ATX is that it can also use DD coils from Infinium..

I still use Garrett products. I have an AT max and two Ace 250s in my collection but it seems to me things have changed at Garrett since Charles Garrett passed away. Vaughn Garrett has retired and the company is under new management. The Ace Apex and the new Vortex series are not what Charles would have created or even approved of. Both were disappointing to many people. Garrett still has good customer service but don't rely on emails you have to call them. Just my personal observations here.

About 2 hours ago, I secured the last two coils I've been looking for, the 12"X10" DD and the 13"X11" mono search coils with other things like a couple of battery holders, coil screws & washers and coil covers. I don't have them yet but I received an email from a mail forwarding company, because Garrett doesn't deal directly with international customers, informing me that they received them and going to send them my way.

It's funny you should mention the customer service, because I totally agree with you. No emails just call them. Anyway, if you're planning to keep using your detector for many years down the road, I suggest you to get spare parts such as batteries holders and coil covers or even other coils of different sizes while you can. Because I learned, the hard way, once a detector manufacturing stops, its parts disappear from the market very fast. Cheers

Yes sir, I would still be using Whites if they were still in business but just like Compass there will come a day when it will become impossible to find parts or service.Glad you got what you needed. Happy Hunting.
