  • Manticore Achilles heel

What has the world come to when before you can even utter a word you are forced to add a disclaimer!!!!!
I am not racist, nor a homophobe, nor anti trans, and more so, I am not hitting on Minelab as a hater

that said, this is my opinion, gained mainly from owning a Manticore and having used it as my main beach hunting machine here in the uk since its launch.

my search for a possible cause arises from nothing other than having had a problem with the manticore from DAY ONE!!!!!

three machines latter lol and although both previous machines did indeed have their own problems, they all shared this one main floor!!!

rather than stringing out what I am saying, here it is and I will then add my experiences at the end.
I wrote this on another site/forum/group in reply to a question about the manticore giving iron tones on deep good target, so some words are more apt there.

    Quote
"Just watch the paid Minelab users jump all over my reply. Watch!!!! It's going to be so telling.
OK so let's look at the manticore.
    The fabulous manticore.
OK not wanting to be too harsh as it was a grate detector.
    It pushed the frontier
100% credit where it is due
    But let's look deeper!!!!!!!
The bit that they don't want to tell you OR have you spoken about!!!!
The manticore was built around the 2D screen. (this is the crucial part!!)
This is its weakness (to a point)
In order for us the user to be able to enjoy and trust this 2D screen, minelab filters out a lot off what it MUST in orders for the screen to look good and do its job
The results are a fantastic machine BUT at the price of depth in some situations.
The manticore will always call iron at depth to save its precious 2D screen results
Again, before you jump all over my comments.
Think about it.!!!! The 2D screen is/was minelabs baby.
Minelab done whatever was needed to get it to perform for us.
    There is always a trade-off.
    End quote.

well, again, I say this with 40 years beach only detecting experience, from the first day I picked up the manticore, my beach decided to call iron a lot more than with previous machines.
I own a Whites TDi beachunter, when using that, the so call iron infested beach goes incredibly silent.

and yes, disclaimer No2, all setting, wide open screens and all coils have been used.

this is not a rant, but unless its gets talked about, it might not ever get addressed.
the minelab paid bods, paid to slam anything anti-manticore isn't helping matters if this is indeed a bigger issue than they want us to believe.

so, I put it out there.

WHAT say you????? How else can Minelab protect their 2D screen other than making you think its junk and you don't want it anyway.

ps. forgive any spelling/grammar, I was born dyslexic

I would have contacted the dealership and get them involved in this odd issue at your beach. I mean if this's a common issue with the manticore, we would've heard about it all over the internet. Besides the detector software is updatable for improvements which means even those who you claim are paid by manticore should not be worked up about it.

With regards to the "iron tone" you hear for really deep targets, it is typical behavior at the absolute limit for any vlf detector due signal deterioration.

The 2D screen, target ID # and even targets tones are all there to assist you to dig less and every experienced detectorist knows that they are good to a certain depth. Beyond that is where your experience with the machine falls in
    .

    Cheers!

      Here is the thing

how would the average user every have known ?????

Imagin you are detecting, how do you ever know that all the ferrous sounds are actually ferrous ??? please let that sink in !!!!

we normally only did non-ferrous or iffy signals

The only target (with ferrous tone,/ID) you should suspect is when the depth indicator tells you it's deep (or you can personalize the audio theme to vary according to target depth). In that case, scrape a few inches or take one scope with your shovel (to reduce the depth indicator by one bar or so) and check the signal again with your detector. IF it's non-ferrous you're going to hear either mixed tones or a clear non-ferrous tone.

Most hunters use the All Metal mode to get these extra inches in depth.

I couldn't upload the instruction manual for the manticore
due to its size but I will put its link for you to download. I highly recommend that you share it with some AI platform then let it tell you what you need to know.

        happy hunting!

you have swept over and ignored my mentioning that having had the Manticore over call iron on my beach more than I know my beach to hold, I went over the exact same spot with my TDI beachunter doing a plotted test area. the TDi results were all the information I needed for me to suspect my finding,

furthermore, I have continued to use the manticore for over 3 years and I have tried every setting to help with this situation.

just for clarity, I am NOT saying the manticore fausles 24/7 but it will defiantly call iron more than it should no matter what you do to it

I did not. I literally said contact your dealership and have their maintenance guys take a look at it. In fact, since what you're having is not a common issue for the manticore, I don't think you're going to get much help from the internet. It could be a faulty component, or just wrong settings, or anything in between. I only shared what I know since you mentioned you're dyslexic and I know for a fact that the manual took some effort and time from me to read and understand.
