    irst thing i did was get a square wave on both channels and turned the beam down,zeroed every thing in, and adjusted probes.Never used one before so i had to go watch a beginners video on you tube, but i have an associates degree in agriculture and industrial mechanics, so, where good.

    hanks, we got to talking ane is a brain cancer survivor and im still taking my chemo, so he just said to take it and good luck, i tried to give him the money but he wouldn't take, great person. probably something i would do, i give things away also if i cant get much for them.

    Yes, probes may pick up and not all are adequately shielded. I have seen poor quality probes pick up noise from the older CRT computer monitors up to 100 ft away. when you have radio station of 100's of KW a short distance away they can raise havoc.
    Using the shortest leads possible helps. Using the lowest impedance possible also helps.
    If you regulaly measure low amplitude low frequency devices it is best to build, or buy a low noise differential amplifier front end. most scopes are designed for wide bandwidth and that compromises their noise characteristics considerably.

    or build you own from the preamp chip (1510) that this uses.

    Connect a 36" piece of wire to the probe center conductor


    ​Thanks, looks like a good experiment. With the probe connected to the wire the 100MHz is riding on some noise frequencies. Connecting shorted probe to the piece of wire kills the noise frequency, 100MHz still there didn't seem to change amplitude. Wire is taped to a wood yard stick, rotating where the wire is aimed changes the 100MHz amplitude with probe only or shorted probe. 100MHz is probably the FM station. With no wire, scope or probe lead is acting as the antenna?

    Green sorry the response is the same. The scope chassis is not super quiet.
    Try this. Connect a 36" piece of wire to the probe center conductor and place it well away from any device , including the scope, does the noise increase? Also try the other solutions. The Z0 probe may well work because it has a low input impedance. It does require that your device be able to drive a 450 ohm load though.
