"I have a simple ESR tester, selfmade, but want to sort SMD transistors that I have many of."

I made up some special test probes so I could check SOT23 etc transistors. You need two small bits of Veroboard (perfboard, stripboard etc) , the solid undrilled tracks at the edge of the board. Or use some scrap of copper clad board. One probe has two 'tracks' on it, to probe on the side of the transistor with two legs, the other probe has just one 'track' . Wire three leads to the three 'tracks', and on the other end, use a header to plug into the tester ( a multimeter, in my case). Place the SOT23 device on a flat surface, and press the two probes onto the legs, so the tracks match up with the legs.
I will try and add a drawing/picture later.

I have two types of testers. This one is somewhat the same as yours with a case. http://www.banggood.com/DIY-M12864-G...l?rmmds=search

It has issues were as it seems someone played with the character code for the mH symbol. I get a chines character H. LOL It works fine just annoying reminder of were it came from I guess. I like the Frequency Generator , PCM Generator and other facilities it has. Most handy . Instructions says you do not need to Calibrate every use if you leave the battery in the unit but I find I need to anyways. Just takes a minute shorting out the Inputs together let let it run until it ask for a Cap to test.

    Also have this unit. http://www.banggood.com/LCR-T4-Mega3...l?rmmds=search

This one is super handy but without the Test Tones or Freq Generator. On arrival I had to put drop of Gorilla Glue behind the LCD as it was flopping around unsecured.

You can get them without the case super cheap. Note: On their Kits if they say Soldered or Welded it means all SMD Components have been installed.

BangGood has quite a selection of various models supper cheap. A DSO - 138 O scope can be had for like $20.00. , Ok not much of a scope but they work fine for most anything Audio and stuff. http://www.banggood.com/search/t4-esr-meter.html

I bought a similar one. I was surprised how good it was. Display always showed the same as every marked component I but in it. Not sure on inductance as I don't have anything to test with.

yes they are good for coils and transistors, i like how you can just plug one in and it gives you the info on them like gate voltage and type
