Question about mag sensitivity

Someone of great knowledge told me that if you where looking for cannons with a mag you would have to almost hit it.So I tryed it and and I came within 40-50 feet of 5 cannon that I know are there and I only got a fant it very small hit I figured it was just me but I asked agin and I got the same answer

The questen was on a mag not side scan that is why it says Mag

I have to apologize. My post went away in a moment of frustration and I tried to remove it after but failed. I understand your issue and discussions on how to make use of both sidescan and magnetometers certainly fits well in this forum.

Hi Bobby,

There is a forum here for Magnetometers and you will probably get more responses to your question if you post it there.

A cannon is a fairly small target for a mag but it would be detectable with one. The mag would have to be a very sensitive one, and would need to be properly calibrated for the area prior to use. When the rest of the Geotech site comes back on line, check the front page and look for the links to info on Magnetometers. You can also look HERE for the archived info from that page to give you a starting point.

Bobby,
A bunch of 5 cannons as they were embarked on old ships should probably weight more than one ton altogether (if located close to each other). A ton of iron generates a field gradient of around 30-40nT @ 40 feet.
If the cannons are made of iron (although some or all of them could be made of bronze, it depends how old they are), this artifact should easily be detected by any proton mag.
