XP deus coil modification

    It's interesting that you say that, Henrik. Maybe XP tried the same experiment, and came to a similar conclusion, which is why they never manufactured such a coil?
    As a Fisher F75 user, I thoroughly recommend the round-profile 5 inch DD coil. Used with sensitivity set high, it still achieves depths 70 - 75% of the stock 11" x 7" coil, but is definitely capable of picking out stuff in iron that the larger coil just gets overwhelmed by.
    I also like it for it's mechanical advantages - crop stubble fields, awkward tight spots, like bushes, hedges.

    I still got and use my small XP Deus coils.. (Not much, but in Very infested areas still a little use)
    Since 2014 when these small coil was built, I made many other test with masking and my conclusion is... Iron and infested areas are not easy to deal with. Its more like a nightmare.
    If any had ask me two years ago, I had Sayed yeah build a small coil, but today I would say.. Use what you got and DIG a lot iron, at those fields with chance of Very good finds... (Hot spot).
    You will get a few more % finds with a small coil, but not much... The iron is masking much more that mustly Think.. A medium size coil like 9" or similar size eliptical coil, will do the job, If you do like many recommend, dig iron and a lot iron. That will give you succes.

    I still haven't properly dissected Henrik's old coil, to see what it's secrets are, I'm too busy. But I think we may have made a mistake when trying to work out the drain wire location. I think there is less of it, the graphite alone is the main conductor in the shield.

    And, off-topic, an internal picture of the controller was posted on a UK forum, it may be of interest to Mr. Sled or others:

    i got a cheap broken 22cm deus coil from ebay.fr
    i suppose that one of the coils is damaged (broken epoxi)

    so i will be the ideal candidate for Henriks Mod, i hope to make a small coil for it around 15cm and one bigger with 30cm
    if i should look for any Details and coil Hardware please aske here

    i can make a lot of photos while disambling the coil

    found some more pictures of the microcontrollers inside the headset and remote:

    The chip for wireless communication is a nRF24L01, maybe one could build a custom remote control ^^

    does anybody know what chip is used inside the deus' remote control box (probably also some sort of PIC) ? Maybe somebody has opened it and took a picture of the PCB?

    There is no shielding at this parts of the Shell the electronic is placed, and I just measured 1-2kohm from the outside to the inside lay,
    and the charging pins is removed... Sorry !so that theory couldn't be right.
    Skippy could you send me a PM with your adress.. Then I could send you the XP coil I open up. Maybee you find out the secret.

    Except for the fact that there needs to be a big unshielded region near the electronics circuit-board, so that the 2.4GHz antenna can work correctly...so maybe the charger contacts area is not coated. They could just paint the graphite around the edge of the hole where the electronics sits, so it links inner and outer surfaces.

    I was just thinking about the external graphite coating, and the method you used to make a connection to the internal shield / ground. Then I realised that XP don't have to intentionally make a connection - they use the two battery charging pins to directly connect the outer graphite to the circuit. And because of the series-connected diode used in the charging circuitry, there is no need to isolate one of the terminals, as no current can leak. I guess on charge a small current must flow through the graphite, but it's a trivial amount.
