If anyone would like to see a brutal Viking movie. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p9LqsW15aU8
What I can help you with Gultnut, is pictures of some viking finds.. Got one Very good friend and he is living in a area with a lot a rare things from that age. This friend has been Detector in 2 years now, and up to 800 finds (alot of coins) and one hoard with 115 roman coins. Its like heaven visiting him.

Today I was at my youngest daughters school to look at their viking project. I was weaving, eating oatcakes and honey, writing viking text etc. It would have been good to borrow a couple of artifacts to show. The point is my hobby correlated with my kids schooling as a one off and added something to the mix..

    To Skippy...
The Shell isn't conductive plastic, but a standard plastic with a lay of graphite. To protect this they finish it with a layer of lacquer.
Why so sure... If I machine the surface the Conductivty is gone, and when I measure the resistance, I can't pressure with the pins at the meter, is must Be gentle Otherwise the pins goes to deep. This outside lay of shielding i measured 1-2 Kohm. How this is connected to the inside shielding I dont know. The resin IS NOT condutive 100% sure.
The inside shielding is much lower that 1-2Kohm, but its difficult to say how low. Some place 1 K other 400 ohm, depends If the drainwires are close or not.
But Skippy Ive could send you the coil I've open up, Maybee that would Be the best solution..

Competition isn't allways a good idea, but I'm Glad that some usefull came out in the open. This like many other threads is something we share and doing together in the spirit of this hobby, and the spirit is so great in this Forum. Lets keep it there and go back to the subject please.

    Hello Henrick.
With that said, I will be happy to "donate". I will be dropping these in the mail today. These are still in the experimental stage so don't get hopes too high.
They fit like a glove on some shells that I just made but once a shell is epoxy filled you may need to make a tiny "shoe horn"to get them on.
Anyway, see what you can do and I may need to make another go around if they need to be larger.

    Don

This is still my favourite thread of 2014. Henrikras has taken an idea from conception through to a successful conclusion ( with lots of technical advice and help from some others ), and has added utility to his Deus. He persevered and came out with his desired coil. And it is shared here, thanks to Geotech.

If there was a monthly Geotech prize, I would be voting for Henrikras to receive it. And I would be willing to paypal a small contribution ( to Carl or George ), so that they could maybe send him a goody bag of resin or winding wire etc. Maybe I'm going to far, but its just a thought.

So, have you had enough experience to know that you got the coil size right? Do you think a smaller one would have been better? I ask because I kept trying to persuade you to 'think small', knowing how good the 5 inch DD is on the Fisher F75 / Tek T2.
SMALLER COIL WILL BE BETTER... BUT THEN COVERAGE IS LESS. IST A MATTER OF BALANCE.

I've been thinking a bit more about shielding, about the conductive plastic, about the conductive filler resin. etc. When you have the time, it would be informative if you could analyse the original coils construction. I think the outer case resistance is best measured using a long strip shape. Such as a 10mm x 50mm x (?mm thickness), measure it end-to-end. As for the filler, I guess it will be hard to cut to a precise shape. Could you make a 10mm cube, and measure Resistance from the centre of one face to the centre of the opposite face?
With these figures, it might help recreate what XP have done.
    I'll post up more later.
WILL DO SOME WORK AND MEASURING LATER.

    Hi all.
Here is some pictures.. Pics 1+ 2 is the coil after 2 hours search. I will record a video next time I go out to the hot spot,
so you can see all the stones and briks there is at the surface.
Pics. 3-4-5 is the finds until know... That spot here was the reason to make a 7" (smaller) in a hurry.. Ive started out there 1-2 months ago, and it allmust impossible to do the search, there is so many nails and iron things. Ive found out that a faster Detector and smaller coils did a better job... More finds days with slow slow swing and in fast programs. But even with the 9" Deus coil and in the fast prg. I could see that the nails was masking.
It will properly Be a kind of a hoard - but the reason so many coins are found in the same place (and there is found many more since 1996 the spot was found), is that all the farmers had to pay the King at this place. Is was a kind of a casstle in the year 12-1500, then is was more like a Big farm.
Must of the coins is form a period 12-1440 where there where a lot of wars / fights here in DK.. We call them civil war coins.. They are with Very low % silver because the King needed money to participate in the wars.
But there is silver coins out there, not many and mustly broken.
Picture 7 is some of the iron stuf I dig up... Ist a good idea to dig those Big iron signal, there is easy to find..

Skippy I will do some measuring this evening.

    Take care good Friends.
    Henrik.
