No, it is ordinary coil, just as any other. Harmonics...that's the answer on your question. Coil is calculated and arranged to cover harmonics, in this case 5 and 15kHz.
One more thing you can do is to measure residual voltage at your coil, so to know in future how to balance your handmade coils.

Anyway i can tell you that CZ-20 works two frequencies simultaniusly, 5Khz and 15Khz. So my concern is how to made a coil for it. I know i must respect inductance and resistance vales, but how is the coil set up. Are inside one or two pairs of coils for TX and RX?
Well this is a work that i have to do.
I think that a good choise to see what´s inside is to pass the coil thru an X-Ray machine.

Have a look at the TX waveform on an oscilloscope. My guess that it's a 5KHz square wave, as 15KHz is the 3rd harmonic, and (as you know) an FFT will reveal that square waves are composed of a series of odd harmonics.

I dont have any technical infos about CZ 20. Would be usefull if we could see schematic here. And yes! You can measure it's frequency. Prepare it; open it and locate TX output. Hi Ivconic , i agree with your mods. My CZ-20, works excellent on land and I dont have plans to search under water with it.
Phones and coil attached to the unit is very hard to deal with it.
My CZ-20 saids is a duald frequency detector. Do you know if is posible to made another coils for it?

Yes 1280 is very good on soil (dry) ! So i went the other day in mountain and spend several hours working with it. Had several coins founded, on pretty descent depths. Now, changed this way, 1280 is much more comfortable. Audio from speaker is loud and good. No more earphones on my head, no more sweating and choking when cable catch some branch or bush. Also now is easy to pack it in a small knapsack. Cables are now pretty relaxed, less chances for cracks.
Yes Eugene, your assumption is very right; i do intend to make 8" DD coil for it. Also i am planing to examine circuitry very detailed and in winter to make some modifications on it. Most probably i would play with working frequency and coils...

Excellent Work Ivconic !!!! I read some good field test reports on your 1280x machine which runs at a quartz-crystal 2.4 khz frequency . It is a good design .... So good that a few years later the Detector Pro Headhunter Wader 2.4 khz quartz-crystal was released !!!!! What a coincidence !!! ....You might also try an 8 inch fisher spider concentric or build a DD coil to be more sensitive to smaller and or less conductive targets . Over the years on Geotech , every machine you posted or worked on , took apart , modified , I have learned something good , so have hundreds of others . If you did not want a water detector why did you trade for one?
You thought a detector that was designed for underwater use would be an ideal land detector?
By doing what you did you destroyed the value of a Fisher 1280X detector.
Now you have a one of a kind detector that no one else would want and you expect everyone to pat you on the back for that?

Again those remarks.... You should be more present in these forums. Than you would understand "collectors" enthusiasm i (and many others) have. It is not a big deal what i done with 1280. I just turned it from submersile to nonsubmersile and nothing else. What's a big deal? Before...and now..it is still very good detector for inland prospecting. Why i exchange it? My friend had only 1280, nothing else for exchange. I usuallly have dozen detectors at home...always. So...i gave him what he need and i got from him only thing he had. Simply as that. Now...having 1280 already, i just wanted to adapt it to suit my prospecting habits. My "comfort".
Is it clear now?

So you took a totally waterproof detector and changed things that make it into a non-submersible detector ... WHY?

If you did not intend to hunt in the water to start with why didn't you just get a 1265X or a 1266X detector?

1280....i just got it without planing. It was a switch between me and my friend, i gave him something else and i got brand new 1280 from him. Curiosity, to see it, test it and have one experience more. I live in continent, pretty far away from sea. I dont really need submersile metal detector. Yet i like 1265/66 spirit. Also i can not obtain 1265/66 in a good shape nowdays. All the units i saw so far were chaos!
1280 is different than 1265 yet enough simillar. So...if you read my first posts in this thread you will see my explanations reffering reasons, why i made those changes.
Seems you are not reading all the posts here. Seems you took only skim look on words above. Let me repeat. 1280 with earphones and coil permanently tied up for detector presents horror for inland prospecting. At least horror for me and my style of prospecting. THAT'S WHY I MADE THOSE CHANGES! UNDERSTAND? CLEAR? ANY MORE QUESTIONS AND REMARKS!? Whatever man do here, always will catch some critics, remarks and irony!?!? But, YES it is BETTER now for me. Much better. I dont need to choke my self with earphone cable anymore. Also i dont need to brake coil cable each time when packed in a knapsack. Sooner or later that poor cable would crack. I have seen more cracked coil cables in my life, more than you have hair on your head.

That coil connector IS rain resistant now. Already tested hundreds of times outdoor on the real terrains. I am using those connectors for over the 20 years with many detectors so far. Especially now when tightly coated with PVC material. So....? Actually you are saying - all the metaldetectors with simillar connectors are .....? What? Junk? Garbage..? (kt315's words)

agree... you did get out all advantage of 1280. that was his waterproof. there was the very good submersible one... now it is only a garbage piece...
