Ok Know I'm putting up 2 mesages in just a few minutes but: Are any of you out there familiar with the older "Whites" detectors, IE coinmasters or goldmasters? Are there any power, senitivity/ depth mods that you have used sucesfully? Would love to share tech notes with some of you and get your feedback on some mods.

Also, someone ounce told me that they had seen a "Goldmaster" converted to a 2 box deep seeker, Has anyone ever heard of this, seen it, done it? Sounds feasable with the construction of a new loop configuration, any thoughts?

Look forward to making contact and also sharing ideas, if you would like to post to me directly please do so at [email protected]

Regarding two-box, I would think the older IB detectors (non-VLF) should be fairly easy to convert. I would also love to hear from others about this.

Keep in mind that I will gladly add any contributions people want to make to these web pages. Just send me a text file and any graphic images and I will do the HTML for it. Or a PDF file. I want the Geotech pages to be a collaborative effort, plus I don't have time to do it all myself. :-)

Look at my Fastcoil.pdf article that covers ways to reduce the delay time between the time it takes for a mono coil to transition from TX to RX. The damping resistor value attempts to reduce
the oscillations that occur when the TX current rise drops to Zero and stimulates the targets with their detectable eddy currents. The TX coil mode needs to dampen the oscillations before the RX mode can become activated. Lowering this time is critical for detecting small gold targets that may give up any stimulated energy from the TX mode before the RX mode turns on. This is why the general theory of minimizing coil seen capacitance is very important to understand when doing metal detector modifications. My Fastcoil article covers a few ways to lower coil capacitance within the coil design, as well as minimizing any coil- seen capacitance in the MOSFET coil driver.

i did a lot of research on shielding the coil with the least amount of added capacitance. This is why I chose to use Scotch 24 wire mesh as a coil shield. I also chose to use Teflon insulated coil wire to reduce winding capacitance. I devised a way to make a variable damping resistor to watch the damping effect on an oscilloscope to optimize the damping value.

I hope this article helps geotech1 members build better metal detectors.

        Hello BBSailor,

Did you notice that you just replied to a 25-year-old post? I think this topic is no longer active.

My article is from 2006 and the concepts remain valid for those seeking to make a fast mono coil.

            Hello Joseph,

I'd like to read your document on fast mono coils. But where can I find it? The "Articles" and "Coils" sections in this forum are empty.
