PI detectors battery casing

Is there some special reason why PI detectors like Minelab SD/GPX and Lorenz use the batteries outside the main control box e a separate box or is just a matter of space / ergonomics because most of these hi-powered detectors used heavier batteries?

Yes, according me, the main reason for this solution is the need of very powerful and big in size at these days power part. But now, with smaller and power LiPo variants is no problem to incorporate the power source in the main control box.
