  • Looking for open-source deep PI metal detector schematic

    Hello everyone,
I am working on a DIY project to build a deep‑penetration pulse induction (PI) metal detector. I am looking for open‑source schematics, PCB layouts, and build plans for proven high‑depth designs.

If you have links to open‑source projects, Gerber files, or tested DIY designs, please share them here or send them to my email: [email protected].

Any advice on coil tuning or component selection would also be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Is there an open-source PI detector at all? If so, what is its name?

The PI Detector is really simple to do but why you needed open source after then ask to produce in series mass production in mainland China and sell worldwide. I may create one but no motiv after knowing the goal to make money on my free research and development give away.

ITMD3 includes 3 micro-driven PI projects, and schematics, Gerbers, and source code are posted in these forums.

Hello everyone. I am not here for sales. I am also a frontline treasure hunting enthusiast. The depth and mineralization resistance of my current detector are not very good. I hope to get a design that can reach a depth of 3 meters. Because in China, precious metals are usually buried at a depth of about 3 to 5 meters. I hope engineers can give me some suggestions and help. This is the detector I am currently using.

What is the detector model in the picture? Do you have further information about your detector? Maybe some pictures of the controlls and how it looks from inside would be usefull? What kind of targets types and sizes do you want to find at 3 to 5 meter?

Hello 55323352, what is your PI detector circuit diagram. Could you also share pictures of the PCB and your coil design. I ask to reference to know how can we help you. But straight away method for you is to buy Inside the Metal Detector book from Amazon

                    Hello everyone,

This is an internal photo of my pulse induction metal detector. I bought it from a domestic seller, but its detection depth is insufficient. It false alarms frequently when the ground is wet or in cold weather. It is also too sensitive to iron, while its response to gold, silver and copper is very dull.

I wonder if the experts here could provide me with a good design scheme for a pulse induction metal detector. I plan to build one by myself. You can contact me at: [email protected]

                    Thank you very much!

For something the size of an automobile, it might be possible. But not for anything smaller.

I think you have some misconceptions about the detector you want (great depth for silver & gold). The search depth depends primarily on the size of your search coil. Large coil, great search depth; small coil, shallow search depth. You should also know that large coils can detect large objects, but not small ones, and certainly not gold. That's just a fact.
Now, about your detector. It's possible to modify your detector so that it can find large objects at great depths. For this, you'll need to build a larger coil, a frame coil. You can build a 2x2 meter frame and then make a coil with 7 or 8 turns from computer cable. You can find instructions for building a large frame coil here on Geotech. Just search for it. When building the frame coil, you should ensure that the coil resistance and inductance are the same as the original detector coil. Otherwise, you'll have to adjust the electronics to the new coil. On eBay you can find also ready made cable coils. Just need to look for them.

I'd like to thank all the teachers for your replies. I'm a complete beginner and don't know how to reply to each forum post individually, so I'm responding to everyone here at once. The coil I used is 2m × 2m, with a total wire length of 8 meters. It can detect a car at about 4 meters, and a dinner plate-sized object at 1 meter. By the way, could any of you recommend more powerful detectors with greater depth and better stability? If you have schematics, please send them to my email: [email protected]. I want to build one myself.

That's about the limit of induction-based metal detectors, including PI.

Teacher Carl-NC, do you have a more powerful machine now? If you do, could you show me?
