  • Regenerative PI Transmitter

Here's a regenerative PI circuit that I have been playing with. The idea came from page 492 in ITMD3 along with a timing diagram from the forum. The circuit has been used in a few of the Garrett's PI detectors. These include the ATX, Infinium and Axiom. The basic idea is to store some of the flyback energy from the long pulse into a capacitor and then use it to boost the Tx current in the short pulse. This equalizes the current between short and long tx pulses also increasing the sensitivity to small low conductors. An added benefit to recycling the energy is the snubbing action. It regulates the flyback voltage to under 200v, depending on the coil inductance and storage capacitance. It allows the use of lower voltage mosfets with better specs and cooler running damping resistor. This method emulates multi-period pulsing and DVT used by ML. For more details see attached PDF.

Thank you so much, Altra, for sharing this great project with us. It's a very interesting project!

      Hello Altra.
A processor schematic is pointless without a hex file.
We won't take the schemes with us to the afterlife.

      Still, thanks for the idea.
