Many thanks for this . I got the job done AND the mods in under 1/2 an hour once I could "see" where the problem was using the 'scope.

Thanks, Its been awhile since I read schematics, I saw that after I posted. This seems to be the souped up schematic driving the coils harder by changing R33 and R29. The only thing I don't understand now is how the switch shown at the bottom ( S ) is connected to turn the unit on and off, since it looks like the batteries are always connected in the on position.
