    The calculator assumes you are using enameled copper wire. It does not have the capability for the user to enter the insulation thickness between individual windings. In practice there are many factors that can cause a difference between the calculated inductance and the final value. Although the insulation thickness is one factor, this is minimal when compared to discrepancies in coil shape, inner radius and the way the bundle is tightened. At the end of the day, the calculator is just a tool to get you into the right ballpark. Often you have to either add or remove a few turns, but generally the prediction is quite accurate.

    The video looks very impressive. It does perform very well on the workbench too!
    I'm wondering if the key feature of the design is the "autotransformer" arrangement in the oscillator. 100 + volts across the coil!

    I think I built 2 of them at one time and my son built one. I put it away though when I found that it wasn't too practical for use outdoors. Single channel means no ground balance and had some stability issues. Other than that it was fun to build.

    Do you know if anyone has played around any upgrades to the project? Maybe a GB channel?

    I would be more impressed if the video showed rejecting ferrite, rejecting iron and accepting non- ferrous metals with changing any settings.

    But, I don't think that the inductance values are that critical though as long as you can tune your Rx coil to around 8kHz

    RX -> N=52, L=5.0mH

    Your calculations are still incorrect.
    For a 10" diameter coil (127mm radius) with 60 turns of 0.25mm wire, the inductance should be 2.937mH.
