Yes this IS a very interesting site and the calculations seem to be correct. This guy is not very interested in optimizing the patterns though...

I claim that you can get good teorethical patterns with the transducers equally spaced (try for instance 6 pcs, 200 kHz, 20 degrees transducers, equally spaced at 70 mm middle to middle) the key is to choose the spacing of the transducers so that the first "side lobes" are outside your beam spread. Then they dont matter, do they?
